I am disgusted

they are high responsibility positions and need skilled individuals occupying them so they do have to pay highly, but theres way too many and higher than they should be there tbh.

Top managers get paid a high salary. Get over it. I bet they would be higher in the Private Sector.

The Taxpayers Alliance sound like a bunch of foaming-at-the-mouth types to me.

I'm not against paying high wages to keep good people in public service jobs, but paying a local council manager more than the PM does seem a bit mad?

The local councils are top managers are they?
Perhaps in position, but in skill?

Just like the private sector some are very good, some mediocre and some poor. It is a top job and demands a top salary to attract the right people.

Everybody pays NI contributions but I don't see a mob of angry "taxpayers" out to lynch GP's and their 100K + Salaries especially considers the recent 10's of thousands pay rise they got.

i agree, i think we should incrase the PM's pay, i can't beleive he gets paid so little. I can only assume he gets a lot of money for other things, like magazines, celebrity appearances etc?

Performance related though, they do not deserve the money they get. Hull one getting paid silly money for a place that is regarded as one of the worst places to live (year after year) in the country!!

Trouble is, unlike the Private Sector, it is a hell of a lot harder to sack the bad ones. This is why you end up with people who can't do their job in these high paid positions.

That's what needs changing and that's where people anger should be aimed. Cut the chaff and sack the crap.

Talk about comparing two things from different ends of the spectrum.

To become a doctor takes years and years of study, hard work, devotion and basically being **** upon from a great height. Especially with all the red tape there is now. I personally would prefer to pay more NI and lower Council Tax.

To work in a council requires that much devotion and study? Do they regularly save lives each day? Or do they sit on there fat, lazy ***** and delegate or 'have lunch'. I remember reading of that one fat *** who was moaning about paying parking charges because she was a councilor! Sorry but this really gets on my ****!

THAT is what my council tax is being wasted on??

If you want DECENT management at this sort of level you must pay the wages that will attract them, otherwise they will simply get jobs in the private sector and you'll be left with the sort of duffer who is happy with immense responsibility at low salary.

Being a Chief Exec is not a difficult, easy or unstressful job. These salaries mean that skilled people are likely to apply to the Council in addition to big business.

You don't just walk out of school into a job as a Chief Exec you know..

And you do to become a doctor? Actually depending on which company you go to you could become a Chief Exec straight away as there is no stipulation on age or qualifications there is to be in the medical profession in relation to qualifications. You could even walk out of school and make your own company and appoint yourself as a CEO.

There's always rumours of how people get the jobs in the council as well. Because of how hard it is to fire people they 'promote' them meaning that there are 'rubbish' people in senior positions.

Sorry but I disagree that everyone in that position is a highly capable and deserving of a 200K+ salary - especially with the massive pay rises they get whe it is supposedly capped.
