I think CEO's both in the Public and Private Sector should earn public trust. What about the Fat Cats in the Energy Industry having massive pay rises whilst poor people and pensioners have to chose between heat or food?

Again I agree with that. It's the same with the CEO of both British Gas and Barclays who earn phenomenal amounts while the customers have very poor service (especially in BG's case).

If the CEO's though are there to maintain the status quo then surely you have to question the rights for them to earn so much as they are not progressive. I'm sorry to continue this but it's a thing that's close to many peoples hearts as to why we really have to have a rise year on year whilst still receiving very poor service.

people getting themselves mixed up here...councillors are locally elected politicians who will be on an allowance with expenses and not salaried, and nowhere near the figures quoted

this story relates to the chief execs..the professionally qualified business managers who run and are responsible for the entire council...they will also be responsible for in some cases, thousands of employees and budgets in the hundreds of millions of pounds..the salaries reflect that responsibilty..councils these days are businesses

I agree but unfortunately the system is so complicated and messy it is impossible for anybody to do anything but maintain the status quo. Councils are such unwieldily beasts that you need somebody with excellent management skills to keep the balance. A bad manager in charge and you get the situation that is happening in Hull with people still not able to move back into their homes.

My mate says he is allowed to choose budgets himself and said "i was going to charge XXX before, but the guys an idiot, i'm going to up it to £15k", manager goes "whatever you want". So yeh, think the gap that needs to be culled is middle management.
