not sure if this belongs in the GD or motors but here it goes.

so basically ive only been driving for about 2months max, since having my licence last year and only recently got a car. well me, my brother and my dad go to halfords to go get some car mats, seeing as we didnt have any in my car. so we go there all fine, not a word from my brother about my driving (he hasnt passed his or even done his theory) but my dad likes to commentate on everything i do, saying "this isnt how you drive, blah blah blah". yes, hes much more experienced than i am, i agree, but he doesnt understand that each person drives different.

im no speeder or anything of that sort, but when we got home, i ended up doing a reverse park, fine. but when i was about to go in and do my final turn, my dad and brother decided that they would tell me how to "park" rememeber, ive only been driving for 2 months max had licence just a year. they decided to talk and say, "go forward, go back do this, do that" and my dad above all was making stupid noises going "EH EH EHE" telling me to stop and break, which i already did. all i had to do was one more turn and ill be in the space. so i obeyed my brother and went out went back in, etc then my dad decides to add his 2 cents in, and started saying this isnt how you do it:mad: so after a minute or two, i got really frustrated cus this isnt the first time my dad likes to dictate on how "i" should drive. so you guessed it, i manage to dent my car   right now i am cheesed off

so does anyones parents or any person tells you how to drive while youre driving, knowing that YOU can drive perfectly fine without their gob opening and telling you what to and not to do?

sorry for the rant but its really peed me off that ive got a small dent on my car right now, hes my first car, and its my baby :p

Its a parents thing dude, dont take it to heart.. my mums is exactly the same.

Last night I offered to drive my parents and myself to the pub for a meal, so they could drink.. my mother is the deffinition of a backseat driver.. dont do this, dont do that, watch him, basically questioning my hazard awareness and my driving in general..

Shes had her licence a few months more than me, but if you get in a car and try and critisise her, she will bite your head off.. and if you try and say something to her if shes in the back of your car she does the same and goes into a complete sulk..

Yet my dad says my driving is fantastic..

Parents for you!

Your fault for listening to them and allowing them to distract you tbh!

i know, it happens ALL the time.

thing is my dad is the sort that you have to listen to him or he would put on his ****** of face for not listening to him, so somehow i have to "listen" to him. controlling dad, yes, reasonable, no.

You should have told them to stick it where the sun dont shine, regardless of who they are. You are the driver, and you are in control, dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

tell me about it. they dont seem to understand that when they say things thats important, you have to listen carefully to what they say so your attention seems to be diverted to them, while chit chat and talking is fine, cus youre mostly listning bit by bit.

its just like saying if youre flying a fighter jet, and youre about to do some gnarly tricks in the air and your mum decides to say, "ohh no, thats not right" it just throws you off your concentration on what you was abotu to do, which is FAR more dangerous than me making a mistake of not parking in the space first time :(

My mum is the same. She has to go through every little step when explaining something to me... I KNOW HOW TO PUT DISHES IN THE DISHWASHER!

btw the didnt even park in the space, cus i heard the noise of my car denting, so i drove down the road checked out the car, then got cheesed off with my dad, then afterwards he still had the nerve to say "oh, park here", so i said, im not staying im going home, so i drove off ****** of (of course!) and now back at mine, im still thinking how it coulda been avoided if they would just shut their mouths.

funny thing is, im listening to my brother who hasnt driven before, or had a lesson, and not done his theory. yet i decided to listen to him  i say 3/4 was my fault. the rest is theirs, seeing as i cant help but "please" ppl by listening to them

lol but thats your mums pride and joy :D

Right, so to summarise:

1) You were driving.
2) You were actually listening to the passengers about how to park.

So who's the idiot here? The people commenting on your driving....or the plonker who listened to them and ended up denting his car?

:)

No sympathy here, to be honest. When I drive family members/friends/colleagues around, they can comment all they like. They shouldn't expect me to take a blind bit of notice :D

lol just dont take them out in your car again until they learn manners.

yea ive decided not to now, so when i go round my parents again, im just gonna walk it round. im sure somehow i would get told "why didnt you drive round?" or "thats not how you walk"

It's not even like it's only that; when she left in the morning, she said "Make yourself lunch, open a tin of tuna, put mayonnaise in it, then put it in bread".

exactly...

your car and you're the driver and they have no say. just ignore them and forget about the annoyed face your dad may make.

as also said above it is your fault as you was listening to them.. i remember a question coming up in a theory test i did asking if a passenger gave instructions you MUST check for your self.

"You're going at 30.. it's a limit not a target."

"You should indicate when going around parked cars."

"You're thraping the engine..."

:o
