Me and my brother were talking only last week how it would be so great if they were to make this book into a film, anyway.. guess what ? they are ! only it's not how I imagined ..

Just seen an advertisment for this being shown as a film coming January 2008 staring Will Smith. :(

Does anyone else after having read the book feel he is totally the wrong choice of actor for this role?? I personally feel Hugh Jackman would have been a much better choice for this film after his performances in The Presige and The Fountain, and just generally his smooth yet wise style.

It's also set in New York which I feel has kinda ruined it in my eyes as it's meant to be set in more of a town/village.

Last but no least, what's with his car?? I think he's driving the new Ford Mustang although can't be certain. no, no, no ! :(

The Will Smith version is the third adaptation of the book.

The first two are "Last man on Earth" and "Omega Man".

Omega Man is really good except it removes the vampire element from the movie.

I thought it was the fourth? I've sure there was at least one more version which vanished without trace in about the sixties.

I saw the trailer for this and thought they'd just done a Hollywood 28 Days Later remake. Glad to hear it has some 'substance' behind it, it's made me slightly more interested.

according to some people its more like fail. personally i like will smith and im sure the film will be good even though hes black as according to some people being white is an integral part of the story :p

im not referring to anyone on here but a certain site seems to be full of whining little girls, the film does not need to be a carbon copy of the book to be considered good

Never read the book, but the film just looks to me like 28 days later with will smith =/

Ugh... The fountain, that film tries way too hard to be deep and meaninful, ends up being completely meaningless and random.

I got huge doubts over this adaption. I like Will Smith a lot but he's about as opposite what the character in the book is all about as its possible to be. I just cant see it working. I'd imagine a grizzled cheesed off Kurt Russell to be far better in the part. Plus with Smith i really cant see them keeping the ending of the book in which totally defines what the title is all about.

But it should be a fun End of the World type thing, i just wish theyd called it something else and did a proper adaption of the book.

If you havnt read it go and get it, its only a short story and can be done in a couple of sittings. But its fantastic :)

The book is fantastic, I read it after seeing it talked about in the previous I Am Legend movie thread. From what I can see, this film isn't going to be an exact copy of the book, but I just hope they don't ruin it and have a "Hollywood" ending.

Gotta admit, I haven't read the book, but I'm a Will Smith fanboy (:p) so it's WIN for me. :D
