I can never get an appointment

I already complained to them that they are not big enough to handle the amount of patients, but they don't have no incentive. From their perspective as far as i am aware, if they don't see more patients it makes absolutely no difference to their salary. From their perspective it is within their interest to see as little amount of patients as they can get away with.

All of them driving convertible mercedes or top range bmw and just take it real slow, spend 30 mins on each patient which could easily take 10 mins. But why from their perspective should they hurry up, no incentive.

Odd really as most doctors appointments are very short in my experience, with most people complaining the dont get enough time and are rushed!;)

I am just pointing out that the NHS gps have no incentive to see more patients, how does that make me a tool. I am pointing out that the problem is systemic. They all getting paid loads to take the **** in my opinion. These guys see probably half the amount of patients that ive seen private doctors see in SA per day.

I rarely saw old people at the doctors in SA. I did see them but not like here, here there is something seriously up with that. I mean to have old people going to the doctors more than twice a week and the doctors till give them appointments, it just shows of rank systemic problems with this model.

You can't phone up at 8am the phones are not open. You can't even get through the on the phones 90% of the time, they just don't answer for appointments. The online booking system says you can book appointments but doesnt let you pick the date, just says a range from between next monday and the end of the month. Then the doctor tells you when your appointment is. they are so kind you can pick whether you want a morning or afternoon appointment.

Probably because either they couldn't afford the cost of seeing the GP or they died because they couldn't afford to see a doctor in the past...

Arghhh. Old people !

Even more annoying than OPS problem is when your on a bus and it's full of old people who could easily and happily get the non rush hour bus

you do realise you can phone up and request an emergency appointment?

You then get seen pretty much same day or the next, well at least its like that at my GP surgery in London

most surgeries have walk in times as well, first come first served.

I've never had to wait more than 20minutes at the one near me

They should make a rule that these old people and young mothers can only come once a week to the gp unless its a real emergency. These people with no jobs nothing better to do than go to the doctors twice a week.

I wish it was private, if next door was private then i would already have seen a doctor, it would have cost me an extortionate amount thanks to the nhs pushing up the prices, but at least i would have had my 5mins with the doctor.

ur a joker, you have no proof that these people are going there just to doss about. There obviously there for a reason and its not unusual for older people to have to go to the GP twice a week. Slap yourself before somebody else does.

Ours is great you just call up and get an appointment same day:) Mind you I changed doctors as the last one was crap. Not the doctors but the measures put in place to stop you getting an appointment.

Our surgery is less than useless sadly. Tried to book an appointment last Friday. Told the receptionist I was experiencing pain in my chest and was asked if it was urgent. Advised her I have no idea whether it is urgent, so she offered me an appointment in a fortnight's time or turn up for the two hour open surgery 3 days later. 8pm Friday night called the out of hours line because the pain was getting worse, referred immediately to local hospital to check I wasn't having a heart attack. Turned up and diagnosed with Costochondritis within 5 mins of arriving. In future I'll wait until after 5pm to be ill :)

When I found a lump in my right golden nugget I rang at 9.01am & had my nads resting in some young female Doctors hands by 25 past 9, Now that's what I call service :p

I did try to arrange weekly visits with her as she was lovely but I got Blanked. :(

OP, shut up.

Elderly people - funnily enough they have ongoing health issues for which they must regularly see their GP, they also have more sudden onset ailments due to their age. They've paid their taxes all their life and worked hard so they can have the NHS to accommodate them in their old age.

Not so some jumped up entitled little toerag like you can come along and act as if you're gods gift and you deserve to see a doctor more for whatever presumably small penis related ailment seems to have befallen you.

If you have an emergency - go to the emergency room.

Otherwise book an appointment or phone up at 8am to check for cancellations on the day. Or there are walk in centers which will see you if need be.

Other than that go pay hundreds of pounds to see a private doctor, I'm sure he'll polish up his best microscope and gear up for a laugh.

+1 Op has an apalling attitude to old people as if they should make way for him even though he's probably paid next to nothing into the system as yet

As a student I can usually get appointments within a few days during term time, or seen the next morning at the drop in if I'm prepared to wait around for an hour. However, it was pretty difficult back at school because I'd be busy most of the day, and my parents were either taking me to school or driving to work when the surgery opened for bookings in the morning. This would have been inconvenient if my parents or I had wanted an appointment if my dad wasn't a doctor himself :p. (although actually there was one time when my sister actually needed a test at the doctors and it took ages to get one, and they couldn't even get it done the first time (which she missed school for) because the appointment was with some noddy trainee nurse rather than with the doctor that had been specifically asked for.)

It seems to vary massively from practice to practice though, as someone else I know could never get an appointment at one place, but then switched to a different one and it was really easy.

OH's Uni was a nightmare. They only did same day appointments, phones were off until 9am, and all appointments gone by 9.15. Anytime in the middle was a case of if you are lucky enough to actually get through, which was generally unlikely.

agreed, AND it seems very like the OP is pretty much healthy and has no real need to go to the doctor (if as he says it would only take 5 minutes), jeez the audacity is staggering, so much so its difficult to believe this is a serious post.

My Mum works in my local Health centre, the amount of old people and people that need repeat prescriptions yet forget to order them is unreal. They then ring up to see if the health centre has ordered their prescription even though they havent put in the form, they say "oh i forgot to order the prescription" and then complain that their prescription isnt in even though its their fault.

Your OAPS are doing it wrong lol. Where I am, the GP will check for the first couple of months that my dosage is working, then I just pop into the chemist to get my repeat thereafter. I only have to see my GP regarding my meds once a year and my condition has been controlled for 8 years now.
