1 - Cigarettes were good for you

2 - you visited the doctor, he was smoking

3 - you were visited by a Consultant in hospital he would be smoking a pipe.

4 - The first gay man I saw was Larry Grayson in the early 70s (Shut That Door).

5 - I was 18 (in 1976) and I openly said that I didn't believe in God and everybody thought I was mad. It was taboo to say you didn't believe.

6 - two people living in sin (not married) was very rare. In fact the first couple I knew living in sin was my sister in law in the early 80's. I got married in 1980 and me and the girlfriend considered it but not for long when we had too much flack.

7 - A teenage pregnancy was hidden and not talked about.

8 - It was about 1995 when I first heard a parent confessing that their son was taking hard drugs. Up until then no parent would admit it.

Theres loads more and I look forward to some older members contributing (theres not many of us) but it shows how society has become more tolerant.

...there was no arpanet and mp3s so the only hope for (almost) free music was copying tape to tape from cassettes borrowed from the local library! :D

We went to the Open University Computer Dept when I was at College in MK, they still used punched cards........

Beer was 60p a pint

Train fair (Night Rider) was £2 return MK to London and they ran all night.

I didn't know The Village People were gay until a couple of years ago, saw 'em on telly and laughed.

Gay wasn't talked about in them days, it was a man's world.

Nothing wrong with Punch Cards!.. or ticker tape..
I Remember when computer rooms that had sealed airlocks and Hard disks that were 40mb in cabinets that were 3ft tall.
My 1st job was with DEC PDP11 and DEC Vax 11/700 and 11/750.
I am a bit younger than you DM ;)

My Mum borrowed an Apple IIe from work and I blew the PS by flicking the 110-240V micro switch......

My first job, used a Wang Mini Computer with full size floppies for backups, took ages, had to do them every day.

Edit: Oblivion on Ticker Tape, how long to load....

Yeah you don't see that anymore.

I remember when the village bobby had respect

I remember when there were no speed cameras

I was only discussing that last week with workmates.
It must have been a certain food they were feeding them.

Oh good I'm glad someone else remembers it. :D

I remember when we had the right to protest

I remember when we were innocent until proven guilty

Edit: mind you these are recent developments
