I got the following i got a wireless connection and my pc is upstairs but it connects perfectly to my router but it wont come up with the internet but i can log into msn messenger what wrong? any one got ideas

Sounds like DNS settings are wrong.

Start > run > "cmd" then type "ipconfig"

Make sure all the entries are correct for your network.

IP: whatever your machine is
Subnet: most likely 255.255.255.0
Gateway: router ip
DNS: router ip

Could also be DNS settings on the router, DHCP could be giving out the wrong configuration if it hasn't been setup properly.

The DNS servers should be specified on your ADSL documentation.

I have done that on my upstairs computer where do you edit it from do you edit it in internet protocol and then general ? I have done that and it dont work my

IP: 192.168.0.3
Subnet:255.255.255.0
Gateway:87.87.252.83
DNS:192.168.01
what should i do?

if your having dns issues on pc number 2 but pc number 1 is ok i'd suggest running ipconfig /flushdns and then ipconfig /registerdns.

this will remove the dns and reset it from the router (DHCP).

You could enter the 2nd dns server from your ISP on to the router but that would be overkill if one of the 2 machines is working ok.

should i do that on the 2pc or the first?

this is what it says reply from 212.58.25.202= bytes=31=time=54ms=TTL=247
ping statics for 212.58.251.202
Packets: send=4 recieved=4 Lost=0
Approximate round trip times in mill
Minum=54 ms, Max= 54, Average 54ms

ok, basicly what we've done is send packets of informaton to bbc.co.uk

they seem to have resloved the name to an ip address so the dns is ok.

the replys times are ok so i can see no connection issue there.

what was the issue again?? internet explorer not working??

no i have not changed nothing i reboot once but my internet explore and firefox were working 3days ago but not anymore on my firefox it says in connections direct connection to the internet ticked

I don't like the gateway address you gave in #3. Are you on cable or ADSL? Can you do an ipconfig on the working PC and give the results, please.

hey i got adsl and i am also with sky ip=192.168.0.2
subnet=255.255.255.255.0
default gatway=192.168.0.1
that is for the first pc that is working and that is connected to the wireless router

So it looks like the problem is the gateway address on the PC that's not working. I suggest you set that PC back to getting its network address automatically (Internet protocol, properties, general) then do an ipconfig on that one to make sure the gateway address is the same as on the working PC.

basicly you want to copy the settings from the working machine to the secound machine.

if you do ipconfig /all it will list the ip address as well as the dns servers and gateway.

Like snapshot has said it should be the same as the working machine.

if you go to network connections, right click the wireless connection and choose propieties you can highlight tcp/ip and click propities it will show all these options.

you could put in a static ip if you wanted, say 192.168.0.3 (if it's not being used) set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and then the gateway to 192.168.0.1.

you might have to enter the dns server as well, but again just copy what the working machine has displayed.

let us know how you get on.

EDIT; sorry it took me so long to reply. internet went down last night at home. (Rubert Murdock - I love you!!)
