I don’t know what to do!

You're right, I mean multitasking rather than hyperthreading
But there is no way a Phenom II X4 at 3.9Ghz is faster than the i5 2500K at ANYTHING, so I am not exactly sure why you are feeling that it is better at multi-tasking, when all the reviews pretty much shows the i5 2500K would outperform it by a fairly big margin...

Why are confusing speed with multi-tasking? Sure the 2500k is way faster than the 955, which I have mentioned in many a thread. However unlike the 955 it does park processes when multi-tasking. Its only noticeable when running heavy photoshop files and when running 5 updates simultaneously. IMO the 955 runs smoother but not quicker.

We don't change bclk so much on 3820 we change the 'strap' which multiplies bclk by 1.25 to give 4.5ghz at 36 multi I think then you bump it to 38 for pretty much guaranteed 4.75ghz stable.

+1..

Pretty much, the "sweetness" of a CPU depends more in the usage than the Core speed per se..

Best regards.. :)

Surely that is somewhat more affected by the HDD speed rather than CPU performance alone?

It would be. And btw CPU speeds mean nothing it's the IPC that matters.

This man understands. My main use is not gaming but photography while recording the odd HDTV program, for which I should have brought the 2600k.

Another thing, the lack of entries for the 3770K in the Fritz Chess Benchmark/Super PI Thread 2010 is making me suspicious about its performance.

Come on 3770K people where are you?

Actually most of us know it is IPC is what matter, and the thing is Phenom II's IPC is miles behind comparing to SandyBridge, so you can't blame people for being god-smacked when hearing you saying you find the i5 2500K being not as smooth as the Phenom II X4.

But anyway, as far as I know, the overall processing power is more CPU based; whereas the overall smoothness and responsiveness, it is more HDD based.
