I don't want physical media anymore.

Usenet then, if you don't want to share.

I forget the antiquated laws in the UK... got used to Swiss system where downloading is legal.

They commissioned a third party to do a proper research paper on the subject... they found out downloaders purchase more, not less... lol

I must be a little odd because I am looking to go back to physical media. I have netflix, but I still find BluRay to be so much better, including the sound.

Also, I am actually looking to start to buy CDs again and rip as FLAC as I find MP3s poor quality now.

I just bought about 30 blurays that I'm taking back with me to France on Thursday :)

I agree with MP3s too, part of the compression process... The highs and lows sound trimmed and the kids just muddled... Shrinking the soundstage and clarity noticeably.

Depending on the music, you can get very good quality FLAC and DSD masters online. Just be careful for the odd dodgy dealer that pulls a FLAC file from an MP3 ;)

The 1 download = 1 lost sale theory really bugs me. I hate it when companies site lost revenue figures based on download numbers.

+1 The story about lost revenue regarding Fast and the Furious 6 when a cam was released was hilarious. They'd have to pay me to watch that dog pile in any medium.

Personally I buy 95% of the films I see these days on BR instead of going to the cinema (admittedly 2-3 month wait inbetween the two releases). Usually no difference in cost either between the disk and the cinema ticket.

I rip all those I want to see again at 100% quality so audio and video is identical to the disk itself, and keep the majority of others until I want to sell a batch of 30 -50 or so. Admittedly this has led me to have a 25TB unraid server :D

I have 4 trays of disks under my bed as well as one book shelf full (if I had an attic I would have them there instead :))

No legal online service gives the quality I want to make me think about going away from physical media as yet.

Regardless of quality isn't netflix's stuff all really old? Well the majority anyway? I don't understand the appeal of netflix to those that are tech savvy. Sure it's good for people who like things really simple and well layed out that don't know better but these streaming services are all too out of date for me.

I bought all the walking dead hardcovers and I really much prefer the physical media aspect of them compared to really appreciate the artwork. For other stuff though digital is better IMO.

I susbcribe to spotify but I cancelled netflix long ago and I don't buy enough stuff or need it next day to make prime worthwhile.

I use a combination of TV sub package and torrents now. I have about 300+ dvd's all sitting packed away in boxes and to think the money I must have wasted on them. could have bought me a ZT65.

I'm a recent convert to buying physical media. I used to torrent everything but got fed up with poor quality contenr and thinks like hard coded Chinese subtitles.

Ripping is for the most parr automated as i m sticking to 1:1 rips so its a simple case of pop a disc into my home server then hit a shortcut on the desktop of my main PC which rips, renames moves it to the correct golder on my NAS and tells Kodi update its library

The perfect example I have against Netflix and Prime is for example my internet was somehow off all weekend. If you get rid of all your media and just have those, you'll have nothing to watch. I've got both Netflix and Prime and don't mind watching TV shows ect. But I'm still glad I've got a load of physical media or I would have been pretty bored.

Blue ray is stilll the answer really. I have amazon prime and netflix and will not watch films on them. my system shows them up - they're terrible quality. I don't download films but those tha I have seen have been terrible too - for me physical media is still the best way, but I too don't like ot buy them or stor them so I rent them....

have you considered renting them?

I get blu-rays through lovefilm by post (comes via amazon now) - okay they're not for keeps but I have 3 discs at a time, all of the time and I don't have to store them, or pay to keep them. I can hang on to them for as long as I want / need.

I rarely get a damaged one; the coating on blu-rays means they're many times more resistant to damage than DVDs were.

Renting is a good idea, I use Amazon(lovefilm) by post but when it comes to the subject of interstellar you have to wait till end of May to be able to rent it.
Another way it seems of Amazon trying to get people who can't wait to buy it instead.
