Could someone find me Core i7 720QM(1.6GHz) for a laptop, Just want to check the repair company isnt ripping me off, cheers

there are several laptops using that processor and all easily located on google

. is it the cost of a full replacement laptop you are alooking for or just the processor?

Ouch, still think I'm being ripped off though, not 100% sure I believe the processor Burnt out, The fan failed and my laptop shutdown because the temperature reached 90oc would that be enough to burn out a processor

What sort of laptop is it? I would have thought a new laptop would be a better bet at that price if the CPU really is fried.

Doesn't the i7 have a thermal cut out, hence it stopped, replace the fan and it should be OK?

It's a HP Pavilion DV7, The laptop shuts down when it hits 90

An i7 laptop should be under warranty no? Also, the thermal trip should protect a CPU. It would be more likely a component around the chip would fry, like a VRM or even the video chip

I would clean out the heatsink and put some fresh TIM on there before shelling out on a new cpu.

The cpu won't be faulty, it will be shutting itself down to prevent any damage.

I got the wrong end of the stick, When the repair company emailed me, they said the core needed replacing, I presumed they meant the processor, have just emailed them and they meant the core of the fan

Nope just £65, It is under warranty only had it since last May, but I would rather pay the £65 than have the hastle of sending the laptop back

just be careful that you don't spend 65 notes and don't get the problem fixed properly and in the process invalidate your warranty

Well the fan had defiantly failed, It wouldn't even boot up, came up with a bios message saying the fan had failed.
