Keyboards have a 3 year warranty anywayThat's a lot of money to spend on an OS you don't yet know whether you like. Personally I would look for a used 2015 MBP. If you find you like MacOS and want something more modern then sell it for similar money and then but a new one (Applecare is a must with that 2016 to 2018 butterfly keyboard though).

To get the most out of your Macbook, I suggest using Safari - quicker and more efficient. It's a pain to begin with, but use lastpass (or similar) so all your autofill stuff get's transferred over.
I find the battery life on them to be the best in the business. It's perhaps not the longest lasting in specific conditions, but it's the most consistent.
I had the XPS 15 with the advertised 19 hours of battery life etc. Browsing the web on Chrome and watching videos I got about a quarter to a third.
For me, the premium I paid was worth it, but I managed to get a 3 day old 15 inch maxed out for £1800 (Kabylake version), simply because the guy didn't like it and put it straight back in the box. I don't think I'd have paid 3K for it though.
