I fancy trying one of the new MMOs - RF Online or D&D Online?

That's true, I believe Eve didn't even have a tutorial when it was released, which is just mind boggling given the initial learning curve. It's a stunning game now.

It had a tutorial (albeit very buggy) in beta - so it would have had one in release.

Hmmm Iw as thinking of getting D&D as well. MIght give it a wide Birth for a few months. I still find myself going back to CoH. Obviously not as in depth UO. However I just couldnt realy hit it off with World of Warcraft.

Quite looking forward to Call of Cthulhu Onlibne whenever it is released

Theres a new game coming out called Darkfall which is due to be in beta fairly soon. Lots of old UO players seem to be looking at it hopeing it's "the one" No free betas out at the moment but definatly one to keep an eye on.

Yea definitely one a lot of ex-UO players are watching that one. I was interested in Dark and Light... until i played it :p

uo got eaten by EA. Originally there was one world where anything went - there were a lot of player killers and getting owned was a nightly event, which was really gutting at dying lost everything you carried - gold, armour, weapons, reagents etc. even your clothes. So newbs were forced to venture out into groups or stick to 'safe' locations.

Sadly, EA seemed to give defination to the word carebear. They implemented a moonstone system where players could kill a monster, loot a moonstone, drop it and spawn a gate to trammel where they would be safe from PvPers. Feluccia (the other pk'er world) then became a pointless place to be - only red (ie murderers) and other people wanting to pk played on there, so pretty quickly most of the old school players left.

Also EA announced then canned UO2, and made a botched job of UO3D. Since then it declined dramatically. Also they went stupid adding in stuff like robot baddies and ninjas and stuff. Saying that tho, look at screenies of UO and its not hard to see why todays crowd would rather play WoW.

Well I'll reinstall Guild Wars. To be fair I never gave it much of a chance initially, and it is free after all.

I'd love to get into EVE but I just don't have the patience apparently.

Might pick up DDO tomorrow. I'm always reluctant to buy without trying first though - it wouldn't kill em to offer a downloadable trial would it!

Make a time machine, travel back 3 years and start a SWG account. SORTED.

so true, when it first came out, it was the best game in the world. Such a good play. Then they brought speeders in and soem of the teamwork dissolved, then space dissolved it some more.. Add to that a few other things and it went shock..

I want a none sony, none star wars game based on the SWG engine..

id be happy for SOE to just admit that altering the game as much as they have over the past year was the biggest mistake they could have made, and as search re-roll the servers with good old fashioned pre-cu code that worked so well...but, unfortunately, "SOE dont make mistakes" so it wont happen

I know, I played it for the first year and loved it.. Then lost internet for a few months, wen I went back it sucks. now I hear they've change it 2 just 7 proffesions and none of the overlapping choice :o

Vandetta is what I'm waiting for

upset now, it's been released but reviews are saying theres far too few players. And the hardcore players just kill the n00bs for fun. They say it ain't worth the £10 per month..

9 "iconic" star wars professions  and no ability to change without re-rolling toon...well bar prof restart kit (formerly ADKs), decay no longer exists, everything is soloable, as such all boring, no challenge, loads of dead cities/houses etc.

on some servers you are lucky if you even see more than a groups worth of people, its what mostly drove me away was the simple fact there was practically no-one left to talk to

I had been playing RFOnline since the release up until about a week ago but was slowly going off it due to the mindless grind. Since hearing from others how bad and pointless the PvP was as well I tried DDO and although there are some things which make me unsure if I'll carry on playing it (mainly it being non-soloable) it is definitely much more intersting than RFOnline.

So far I've had a pretty good experience of grouping in it though....its just that theres nothing to do if you've only got say 30mins to an hour to play and you dont want to get in a group that you'll have to leave halfway through the quest.

Does seem quite polished compared to other MMORPGs I've played at release.

I've just finished the initial tutorial on EVE. It seems a bit more managable now I have to say. I have 12 days left on the trial so I'll give it bash and see how I get on.

See if you can get over to Isikano - Spacelane Patrol and put in an application to the OcUK Corporation. Space can get lonely if you try to do everything on your own. :)

I'm playing DDO and loving every minute of it. There are a few bugs in it but it's only been out a few weeks. It's worth a try I think it's much better than WOW Got bored of that once you hit 60 and have done the raid instances a few time.

The only thing with DDO is that you need to find some people who aren't idiots to play with.
