I just sold my spare 5870 on the bay to a buyer with 0 feedback, random letters for a name and has a 09 Dec join date. He paid straight away with paypal but I can smell some sort of chargeback/scam coming.... do you think I should refund the money and just re-list it?

Everyone has got to start somewhere. Some people create accounts and then don't use them. I had an account lying dormant for a couple years before I decided to buy a load of old Amiga / Commodore gear. The question is do you want to risk it on someones first time. And a 5870 is a questionable purchase for a first time purchase. But then again my first purchase on eBay was an original boxed Amiga desktop dynamite set. I no longer use eBay or Paypal though as they are the work of the devil.

It took me a year or so after I joined to make my first purchase and it was a camera lens so over to you....

Maybe ask for a contact number and phone them to chat, and then ask for an address. Maybe ask if it's ok to ship it in 7 days time and remove funds from said account?

If it is a scam you certainly won't be doing that again...

A phone call on a landline number wouldn't be a bad idea.

Personally I'd take loads of pictures of it (working and boxed) and send it insured and recorded. You'll have kept up your end of the bargain and I can't see how ebay would decided in their favour if it was a scam.

Magic marker that only shows up under UV light so if they do play a fast one you know where you marked your card?

My eBay name is a load of odd letters and numbers! But that isn't to say you aren't being scammed. Be careful, get a contact number, take pictures/video of said component in fully working order, including serial numbers, and ship it via fully recordable and insured method.

If it goes **** up, I am loathe to believe they would side with a new buyer with 0 rating.

I recently started using eBay and currently sitting pretty on 100% positive feedback, however some guy tried to scam me by asking me to email him my paypal email and invoice so he could pay that way.. and he wouldn't pay through eBay direct..
