I feel like I'm... done with gaming?

I've been playing Overwatch while it's free and its a great game to pick up a have a few matches and a lot of fun. I don't have the time these days to get into any story driven games or complex systems.

I am 42 now.

I have switched 100% to laptop turn based in 2019, with the odd session on the Switch with my family.

I used to play just Premier League Manager as my only turn based game but XCOM 2 -War of the Chosen and Divinity Original Sin 2 changed my gaming life.

Further bouts on Shadowrun (both games), Warhammer Total War and Phantom Doctrine have sealed my desktops fate (for now).

The main issue (can be) fan noise from the laptop (17 inchers) but my family are quite happy to put up with it if it means that I am in the living room more.

I am hopeful that late 2019 will be a great time to get into Laptop gaming with all the hardware upgrades that are going to happen.

I've hit the wall again, ZERO drive to play games for the last 2 weeks. I want to, but just can't seem to want to actually play anything, Sekiro was awesome but stopped playing it and need to go back and pick it up. Other than that, I'm just craving a game like Skyrim, but not Skyrim. I need something relaxed, huge open world, skills, spells, weapons, armour, LOOOOOT. But nothing is tickling my fancy at all :(

Zelda BOTW?

I've been off PC gaming the past few weeks, like a lot of you I want to play something, but every game I seem to open I close almost instantly.

Magic Arena is the only thing I've kept open more than 30 minutes.

I have barely gamed since my daughter was born in 2016 and haven't upgraded my PC since 2014. DIY, mountain biking and family take up most of my time so cant really get into anything.

Could it be that we are all a bit older and games aren't being marketed toward us any longer?

A bit of that, but also I think a lot of games feel and play the same as those we have played for years so it's no longer fun. If a game isn't fun, what's the point?

I was feeling a bit off with PC Gaming until about a year ago when Hunt Showdown became an early access title, I havent been this addicted to a game since the first Battlefield days it really is an awesome game that plays differently to all the other generic online shooters

I think I'm fatigued by open world games that need a lot of time invested in them. The only exception to this was playing City of Heroes again at the weekend - that reignited my gaming spark like nothing else has in a while.

I think I need to play some on-rails stuff again - something like Bulletstorm for a while tbh.

I’m 50 and I’ve been a complete tech geek and gamer for most of my life, I own a decent gaming PC and every console up to the One X but have barely touched a game (despite buying them) for the last 2 years. My new love is cycling and as been for the last couple of years, I know I should stop spending money on gaming and sell off my consoles but struggling to let go!! Of cause I’ll keep the PC as I need it for Zwift

Yeah I hear you, 46 here and I watch Twitch more now than play games, I don't even know why I do that. You get the odd decent title which keeps me playing for a few weeks but the it's back to open game then close after 5 mins :D

I found the trials of the sword challenging enough. Plowing through the main quest was easy - But I'm down with that as I only get an hour per night if I'm lucky most days.
I really really want to like it but I just can't get into it. I find myself cheesing everything with bombs as the Ai is just crazy stupid. I killed one of the giant things within a few hours of starting the game. Plus the weapons breaking after killing 2 enemies is a little annoying... I mean it's a metal sword, it shouldn't explode after killing two bobbins

I had the exact same experience and then I thought fk it I’m going to get into the game and see what it is truly like.

I’ve put in over 100hrs now since launch and still play it. Just going through all the dlc at the minute.

In short it is an amazing game from start to finish and gets massively better shortly after the start which can be a little frustrating with poor weapons and enemies. However weapons do get much stronger with much higher durability ratings further on in the game.

I would recommend you stick it out. Pro controller helps a lot, as does the game guide and YouTube guides on weapon, shrine locations.

Could it be that we are all a bit older and games aren't being marketed toward us any longer?

Possibly but you can’t trust marketing anyway (‘Marketing is legalised lying’ – HG Wells). I don’t normally watch ads but I did see the Bioware The Anthem ad and was so blown away by it that I thought: ‘I am definitely buying this game!’ Luckily, I watched a few reviews first, but the ad was so good. The ad seems to be better than the game so I avoid marketing as much as possible. But I wouldn’t say that ad was aimed at kids – it just looked like tremendous fun. If I’m anything like my dad, I will never be too old for fun (he doesn’t play shooters anymore but he loves playing flight sims and he’s in his 70s). Honestly, if you think you’re too old for fun, you’re doing something wrong. I still prefer playing football (in real world football) but with old age and injuries, gaming can also be great fun (and less injurious).

I wait until 3 friends or trusted sources have recommended a game, then read the reviews before even thinking about buying.

Best games I have played lately are all free: games I already own and deserve a replay: Borderlands 2, Hitman, Titanfall 2, CS:GO. Next up: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Why buy a new release that will probably disappoint, won't perform properly for a few months, and be overpriced when you already have your favourite games of all time (must do a full series Half-life replay too, and Bioshock and maybe the Witcher if I have time). I had forgotten how good they were.

I'm 47 and currently playing Apex Legends. Yeah, my reactions are a bit slower than the youngsters but I still like it.
No waiting 10 minutes for a game (Black ops 4!!) and if you die straight away you're back in the next game within a minute.

Apex is definitely a great pick up n play game. Get a few games out and I'm done.

I've been trying to play through Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, and it is really tough trying to play a game like that in 30 minute sessions. I don't feel like I progress!

I think I've found the 'trick' to these dry spells, I've turned to console, sitting on the sofa playing a relaxed game for a few hours certainly helps with the fix. There is just nothing on PC that I'm obsessed with right now.
