could be coal - break a piece off and try burning it using a gas flame - if it burns its coal.

or it could volcanic glass or something - whatever it is , its nothing special.

I have a large rock collection I've been collecting over the years, I haven't the space to keep it all anywhere though so most of it is scattered all over the world. Perhaps you've seen some of it?
