I got SKY HD, do you know which satellite it points to? I heard astra or hotbird?

thanks guys

The reason i was asking is because i got some Iranian friend staying with me and he wants to see some Iranian TV, so i was thinking of putting into my SKY HD receiver some frequency so the satellite can tune into Iranian TV stations. Do you guys know any way to get a list of them?

You would more than likely need a steerable dish to pick up other satellite clusters, if indeed the SKY box even allows that :D

Why don't you ask in the Home Cinema and Hi Fi Forum, they might know more. :)

hey jez

i took a look at that list, it has no iran channels on there, as there is none is there chances that i just won't be able to at all get any iran channels?

No chance of picking up Iranian channels, that is unless you're prepared to realign your dish. Also, sky digiboxes aren't the best at picking up non sky channels, as they can't get certain frequencies, symbol rates, FECs etc.

Also, depending on what satellite Iranian tv uses you'd probably need a much bigger dish too, rather than the standard sky minidish.

thanks for the reply guys

I have seen satellite motors for up to 1 meter size dishes cost about £60, i only want to pick up a few Iran channels. Would this motor be good for that so i can automatically realign the satellite via the motor?

You'd need a positioner and a new box to be able to receive the channels- (edit, unless you install 2 satellite dishes, one at 13e and another for sky- you'd still need the bigger dish/new box though) Also you'd need a bigger dish, all in all with fitting I reckon you'd be looking at £300-400 minimum :(

I've got a monoblock and a 60cm dish on the side of my house, I can pick up Hotbird 13E (where most iranian stuff is) and Astra 19.2E. Astra 2 cluster is 28E so as you can imagine, its a fair distance away!

Hi Hate

Thanks for your reply

I was just reading about the monoblock LNB that does it for me, i can't believe how cheap they are. I read that it said usually you need a 80cm dish minimum and you have a 60cm are you totally sure it's 60cm? And do you think you can tell me, are the Iranian TV channels that you can pick up are they actually from Iran or are they from all over the world like in America? I hear America has a lot of their own Iran TV broadcasting channels.

Also do you have to manually put the Iran channels into your sky box or does the box pick them up automatically?

TIA

I don't use a skybox, You need another reciever to pick them up.

I don't specifically look at the iranian channels, I just know I can get them.

yes its 60cm, as my back window faces the south coast, so I don't need a big dish

thanks for the make

i see i can pick one up for £95

do i need a viewing card subscription for the iranian channels? are there even that many iranian channels on hotbird?

Thats where my knowledge stops, I don't specifically go looking for iranian channels so don't know whats the deal with them.
