I guess I'm not missing much?

Came to the same conclusion myself, upgrade the gpu's when they start to struggle, which could be a while tbh.

nope, totally pointless upgrade right now. When the time comes for upgrades, it will be GPU's being upgraded first.

why would anyone with an I7 want to move, is there anything u do an I7 can't take in its stride, i know mine laughs at anything i throw at it.

Still on 775 here :D and no need to upgrade
and gfx is still ATi 4000 series too, still max out all games at 1920x1200 without slowdown, maybe drop AA a little but thats no great shakes

What a ridiculous upgrade strategy! I tend to build and upgrade that rig as far as it can realistically go, run it until it's dieing and wayyy superceeded, then upgrade.

I went from a socket 478 P4 HT at 2.4ghz to my current 965BE setup. Next upgrade for me won't be until DDR4 is out at least!

Easyrider, you've gone soft! :p

The only two upgrade strategies which make sense - the Easyrider Method and the Muel Method. Either wait until it's on its last legs, or upgrade immediately and sell your old stuff before it depreciates (that used to be the Easyrider method anyway..)

Got an i7 950 @ stock  and it destroys anything I throw at it. Handbrake just laughs at the encoding I throw at it.

Definitely will be sitting out Sandybridge and the i7 replacement later this year. May overclock if I need a bit more grunt before upgrading again - this i7 really, really is the beans.
