It was a 5d2, a 24-105 f/4.0, 2 x Sandisk Extreme 60mb/s CF cards.

And non of it was for me

- He said we will 'chat' when he comes back from Norway. But I'm not keeping my hopes up

Unlucky mate. And to think you nearly sold your other camera!

Part of me wishes that someone would just give me a decent camera and lens or a big pile of cash for me to buy my own gear (Even had a guy offer to do so) but then part of me wants to acquire it all myself and say that i've worked for it.

The second bit appeals most to me but can't help thinking that I want it to be a lot easier

That what i was about to say and been taught to understand. Its always nice to get a helping hand from another but earning that money, reading up what to get and asking other people's opinion should be how its done properly.

If some spoilt brat gets something like a 50D as his first SLR with an L lens and doesn't know one thing about getting a camera other than "look good with one" really does my nuts in. Some might call it jealousy but i'm not going to lie and say its not because it partly is.

Anyway back to the OP, did you ask if you could play with it while it was in the same room as you?
