and yeah the N100 looks decent, nothing special though I don't think

that auction site seems to come up with the deals quite often, i just looked through the completed items and theres some real bargains for new laptops.

Have you looked at the zepto znote series?
Seem to be very well prices for what I've been speccing.

I've been looking at the 6214W from them, whilst it looks great for the price, I've heard a few remarks about the screen being not as good as it could be. Not much chance of seeing one in the flesh, and I wouldn't want to be disapointed.

That said, they do seem to offer excellent value, and the options when you configure to buy, seem reasonable.

I found this for £499, it doesn't offer the gfx that you are after though.

the matte screen is fine, I have one, however zepto now offer a glossy screen which should reflect your ugly mug right back at you just like dells, Hp's and Sonys :D

Bit of advice, if you have to work with it every day and it needs to be reliable, Quality and a well known brand is more important than the spec.

Has anyone used or seen the acer 9410 yet? It seems good value and has a 17" screen. Am struggling to find anywhere that sells it though. I'm trying to draw up a list of choices for a mate of mine, so this thread is really helpful thanks.

Mind posting some pictures and info on it? What spec is it? How long does the battery last etc?

Ta :)

FUJITSU AMILO PI 1505

Note that some places have that laptop with an 80gb HDD but at a much higher price.

Well he above arrived yesterday and I'm very pleased. Screen is pretty decent, has some sort of glossy coating so is easy to read and colours look good.
Wifi doesn't seem to hammer the battery too badly and the processor seems to perform some video conversions tasks in a very comparable time to my desktop (Barton 2500 running at 3200 speeds).

The fully charged battery lasted long enough to perform a video conversion this morning (took about 90 minutes to convert to DivX) and to do a few other bits and pieces, I assume the battery will improve with a few charging cycles.

All in I am rather chuffed.
