I hate the USB 3.0 header connector

I remember when IDE type ribbon cables were phasing out of use, to be replaced by SATA and the smaller type plug and cable.
I would sometimes read of those being broken, at the cable end and occasionally with the drive.
A focus now seems to be with the 12v single connector on some of the Nvidia cards, on terms of the connection being a problem.

You can also buy a new USB 3.0 motherboard header socket on eBay and get someone to solder it on for you. Shouldn't be too expensive.

Thanks, luckily it was just an old board I was using for a spare build so it wasn't a big issue, I just used a USB 2.0 to 3.0 adapter and connected the case port to the 2.0 port which was fine in this case
 
they do seem easy to damage, quite a few broken ones about.

i seen people repair one but i thought it was not worth the risk

Another thing you can do is buy a USB 3.0 hub and attach it to one of the USB ports on the back. I bought one with a 60cm lead before getting the pins straightened. I now have access to six USB 3.0 ports at the front of the case...

When I took the board out the bent pins looked worse than when it was in the case. It was definitely a board out job and I removed the RAM and CPU cooler as well. Took the board into his workshop at about 13:30 and his receptionist said he would be in at 14:00.

Left my phone number and went back home. I fully expected him to say he wouldn’t touch it but I got a call at 14:15 to say he’d fixed my problem. I would have taken it in a few days earlier but waited for an internal USB 3.0 extension to arrive from eBay. This way he had something to plug in.
 
I managed to pull the plastic shroud off on my b650e-f when doing a case swap! By some miracle all the pins were straight and I slipped it back over them and carried on ...

The moral of this story is if you bend some pins don't attempt to straighten them yourself. Get a professional to do it, it might not be as much as you think. Especially if its an expensive board, and definitely remove the board first this will probably make it cheaper as it will have to come out anyway.

Or pay more attention and take a bit more time in the first place and then not bend the pins.
 
Just as a guide as to how much this repair would have actually cost, another repair firm offered to straighten the pins for £37. I didn't take it to my guy because he offered to do it for free, I took to him because he does board level repairs and therefore I trusted him.

As I say when he'd done the job I offered to pay for it but he wouldn't take my money.
