With the imminent arrival of Fable 2 I am once again feeling the urge to purchase an xbox but the age old concerns of reliability and noise are stopping me.

Are the new versions of the xbox different, more reliable and less noisy or are they really just the same as they were?

Thanks

My new arcade is far, far, FAR quieter than my old premium.
The noise levels can vary greatly even between units of the same model because they use really poor quality fans sometimes. One of the premiums I had made a ridiculous amount of fan noise (it wasn't broken - just crap).

Yeah I know, just thought I'd mention my experience :)

I was amazed at the drive noise, the difference is staggering and the fans are very quiet.

:) It's really unfortunate how much variation there is between machines. That said, a lot of people still don't realise most of the noise is the drive, rather than the fans.

with the new fall update coming you can install the games on your hdd meaning less noise produced by the disk and faster loading time

Im not sure they are anymore reliable, myself and 3 of my freinds have just had our Elites fail within a few weeks of each other(all were nearly a year old). Also, the replacement from a well known high street store seems noisier than my old one(i suspect it is a refurb though).

Having said all that i would still go for an XBox for Fable and the many other games coming out up to Xmas.
