Hello, I am planning on Buying the Titan Kyrpt on Monday, but the only problem is i need it to be wireless and I'm not experienced enough to install a wireless PSI card. So i was wanting to know if the OcUK USB Adapter would work.

After i plug that into my PC, does it work like a PSI card? Or is it one of those Dongles you have to "Top-Up"? I am with Sky Broadband and have a "Sagem" Router that was supplied by sky, Would this USB adapter connect straight to the router and let me connect like a PSI card would, without extra top-up fees?

Or should i just suck it up and install a PCI card?

That one would connect to any router, wouldn't it?

Thanks a lot!

Assuming your wireless is all set up at home, then yes, that USB adapter will work perfectly. If you're not happy installing a PCI card yourself, then get the adapter. An added benefit of having the USB adapter is that if your signal is weak, you can buy a USB extension lead, plug the adapter into that, and then move the adapter to where you can get a better signal.

It should work with your router, as long as it supports the current wireless standards. I would think you'd only get 54Mbps with your router though, unless it supports N or Super G or similar.

Yeah it's all at home, My router is in my downstairs kitchen and my PC will be upstairs, So The router is a floor down. And the extensions sounds like it could help! Thanks for the info.

And also, does that Adapter have to be topped up like dongles? Or is it a 1 off £15 and i can connect to my router for as long as i want?

It isn't a 3G dongle, it is a wireless adapter, so yes, you don't need to top it up at all as it simply connects to your local wireless network and uses that.

Thats awesome! Technology these days really is getting Fab lol.

Thanks for your help man, Much obliged.

Apparently, the USB adapters give you huge lag spikes at times and disconnect a lot? Is this true? If so, i might just bite the bullet and install the PCI Network Card.

i doubt there will be much of a difference between a usb and pci version tbh.

althou if i was me, i would just drill a whole in the roof and put some cat5 there :P

as for the pci slot, there really is nothing to it.
1. Open the Case
2. Find a free pci slot and remove the black plate
3. Push the pci card into the slot
4. Screw it in
5. Close the case

the steps might be slightly different depending on the case, some have screwless expansion slots, etc

only thing to note with a wireless, is to take of the arieal when installing it, just makes it easier, then u can put it back on once the cards in, they usually just screw off

Phone or webnote OcUK. They will happily fit one in your system for you :)

The one you linked in your OP is not wireless though. Look at the ones below.

And yes, a PCI one is generally better than a USB one.

Thanks for that, Which one of these would be better?

And i'd like to ask OcUk to slot one in for me, But i don't feel comfortable giving credit card details over the phone to someone lol. I am kinda paranoid. But it looks easy enough! :D

Thanks <333

In that case place your order then phone them or send them a webnote straight away. Or just phone them first and explain. They will be more than happy to sort it for you :)

The OcUK Value one looks alright and seems to have decent enough reviews.

All of these PCI cards have two attached (but probably removable) antenna which will end up hidden behind your case. You _may_ find that being hidden behind an electrically noisy, metal box will impact on and degrade reception - sometimes happens, often doesn't. If it does, you can get replacement antennae on a wire that can be placed clear of the case - hopefully will not be an issue if you do go this route :)

I'd still recommend the wireless USB dongle simply because it does offer greater flexibility if you are having line of sight issues with the wireless signal. At least you can extend it using an extension and then move the receiver somewhere better. You can do similar with a PCI card by buying an antenna on a cable, but you've still got to fit the wireless card which you don't sound comfortable doing. Whilst it is a simple process, I wouldn't advise you to do it if you have your reservations about doing it in the first place.
