Should I try and find somewhere to buy a 1950 crossfire edition so I can have my existing HIS x1950 xtx (512mb) card in crossfire with it. Or just blow it all on a 2900xt 1gb.

Advice?

Also I use XP and intend to carry on doing so for a while. Do the full benefits of the 2900 require vista?

thankyou in advance.

I would'nt bother with Crossfire or Sli, waste of cash and often more problems than results with certain games. 2900XT imo if you dont/wont buy Nvidia products.

Dont get ne wrong yout 1950 still a nice gfx card and does the job in most games even now, but your best option is to forget Crossfire and purchase one of the many brands of 2900XT (that alone should do a better job). Then make a bit back via selling on the 1950. :)

I wouldn't blow it all on the 1gb 2900 XT, you can get the much faster 8800 GTX for the same price, the 2900 XT 1gb is only 2-3fps faster at a push than the 512mb version, yet it costs over £60+ more, its not worth it at all, much faster GTX all the way, or if you want to stay with ATi, save your money and just get the 512mb 2900.

Welcome to the forums btw. :)

Sell current card put it all on an 8800GTX if you really want performance or an 8800GTS and pocket some change...

Get the HD2900xt 512mb and sell your x1950xt-x

Or make the change in your life and try a nvidia 8800 card

thanks i'l definatly consider the 8800.
Does vista provide much improvement for gaming?

one more question
why don't overclockers sell the x1950 crossfire editions, it is only the pro range that don't require master cards isn't it?
Is it just because there is no demand for it?
Strange.

Nope they dont need them anymore. It is written into the driver, and done over an internal cable. However i did read that if you had an external dongle, it still provided slightly increased performance....

Not sure if you were actually asking or correcting him about something, but yes you can. :D

I don't think I'll be getting one though, after hearing some of the rumours about G92 and its November launch.

O'rly hmmmmmmmmmmm. I was thinkig about getting a GTX recently but have decided to wait for the beast that will be the G92 :D , decided I'll play Crysis at whatever level my current hardware can do and then get a G92 if I actually need to

Aye I decided on G92 also if it's truly coming out in November and is as powerful as the specs say. :D

Pfff G92, since 8600GT I wouldn't put much hopes on a Nvidia midrange.
But then again it could be a great card, grr can't decide , get a 8800GTS now or wait till november and hope my 6800GS will guide me through till then and that the G92 is actually card worth waiting for...

@op: 512 mb x2900xt/8800GTS or 8800GTX are really the only options, forget crossfire and 1gb 2900's.
