I have a 1TB external drive, but only showing as 400mb capacity, how to restore to original state?

I've got an external usb 2.5" hard drive and it's only showing up in Disk Utility as having 359.8 MB available.

I'm pretty sure it's a 1TB drive though. I tried formatting it through disk utility, but no change.

Is there anything else I can do, or another way to reformat it to it's original state?

Is it a cheap external hard drive? what is the make and modal please? have you tried formatting on a windows machine?

I don't think it was cheap. It's a 'Porsche Design' Lacie hard drive in a nice enclosure.

Hmm...I might be able to find a windows machine to test it on.

Nah, shows up small on a Windows 10 machine too even after trying to reformat it.

It's an AR25U3

Looks similar to this

In some data recovery software it seems to see it's 1TB

I'm wondering if there's some kind of command line operation I can run on it to reformat it.

Looks like there was some kind of weird partitioning going on.

Managed to sort with with a reboot and then running the following command:

diskutil eraseDisk ExFAT Lacie disk2

Now it's showing at 1TB :)
