It's from when I was a child, and we stayed in a caravan park, Which was in walking distance of some extremely white cliffs and a beach.

Can anyone tell me where I was from that really lame description?

Scotland + "White cliffs" in google gives me Dover....Yeah! because that's in scotland!

Dunbar? tho I can't recall any proper white cliffs there only some brown rocky outcrops at one end.

My guess would be South Eastern coastline somewhere as the West/North West tends to be red/brown rock.

Yeah, I wonder if my brain is just confusing memories. As I was very young at the time, I remember we went to Scotland because my dad was working there. But I could have sworn the cliffs were white. Then again I did go to the Isle of Wight as a child aswell, I don't remember Dover specifically. But Isle of Wight has some pretty white Cliffs.

Great, I Just spent half hour talking to a Scottish lad, Trying to explain where I had been as a wee young lad.

I'm a Geologist and have been all round the Scottish coast on field trips... basically:

You are remembering the Isle of White :)

Not a lot of people know this but the Isle of White cliffs are the same Chalk beds as a Dover cliffs, they are the same rock ;)

There are no chalk cliffs in Scotland, in fact I can't think of any Scottish coastline where the rocks would appear white. Quarzite on the NW coast isn't white enough to think "white cliffs" and the Limestones along Scottish cliffs weather to some colour you definitely wouldn't call "white".

In summary... it was the Isle of White ;) If you remember where in Scotland you went I'll fill you in on what the cliffs were hahah...

I suspect you've conflated two memories in your head from when you were a child, maybe it was the same holiday but I can't think of anywhere offhand in Scotland that corresponds to having white cliffs and certainly not extremely white cliffs. It's possible I suppose that the light conditions made the cliffs appear white(r) but even so it's a bit dubious.

The cliffs along the east coast just above the border are quite quite white - I can't think of anywhere along there with a campsite and beach tho.

Noup Head - Orkney Islands have white stripes, not 'pure white' or whatever though. Although I would guess it to be quartz?
