I bought a new keyboard and mouse bundle last week (the CM Storm Octane) and just theese past couple of days the mouse wheel is now making a very loud squeak, particularly when scrolling downwards. The keyboard and mouse actually feel like a really good build but the mouse wheel does not feel so great, it looks the same as the CM Devastator one which someone has done a Youtube video of showing how to get rid of the squeak (involves removing the bottom of the mouse off and oiling the side of the wheel).

Does anyone know of any other way to get rid of mouse wheel squeaks? RMA'ing the mouse is probably pointless as it seems to be a design flaw, and would rather not pull the bottom off as it involves removing the little rubber grips to access the screws.

The noise is really driving me mad! How can things like a Mouse be designed in this day and age yet still have annoying design faults like squeaky mice wheels

Yeah on the two zowie mouse I had.

The first one started to squeak and the wheel started to feel different so I sprayed it and this cured the squeak and improved the wheels feel but still wasn't right compared to what it was like out of the box.

So I returned it and got a replacement.

As soon as the 2nd arrived I sprayed it and its been fine still today.

The cans of lube come with a straw to get deep into that area.

Then all you have to do is catch any lube that works its way out of the gaps and around the buttons etc.
