I have a problem

I have a lazy lock on the passenger door, sometimes it opens fine, and sometimes the lock only pops up half way. This is with the remote - not the key.

I don't actually want any help with it - I just thought I'd best declare it before I did anything else.

:D

Ok, seriously - does something need greasing perhaps?

It involves taking the door card off. Depending on how many toys the car has as to how hard that is. Normally just a couple screws and a bunch of REALLY cheaply built plastic snapdiscs hold the card on, then you unplug the P/W and PDL harness and lay the card aside.

Then if you look down towards the bottom rear of the door you'll see the PDL drive. It should be a cylinder about an inch in diameter and about 3-4 inches long with an auger shaft coming out of it.

Use white lithium grease liberally on all parts of the cylinder that are shiny (from having moved recently) and all connections on the lock mechanism.

Reassemble the door card (a LOT easier said than done) and job's finished.

My drivers door was the same on my 323Ci (E46) although after using the car a lot it seems to have fixed itself! If it does it again I'll grease it and write a guide for it.

AHAHAHAHAH SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A LOW MILEAGE ONE LOL

I'd have thought it just needs a bit of WD40 or similar?
Which will fix it short term but dry it out long term. You need grease probably. The lock cam may not be rotating due to stifness, they are normally only plastic and can sometimes be prone to snapping.

You need grease if it sticking, not oil.

think you are going to find the motor built into the latch unit, might be wrong, prob best to check at the local bmw parts counter. most of the later ones are.

you should have bought one with less passenger door usage... tsk - number one priority on buying a car.

suprised a BMW doesn't have some kind of sensor for it either :p
