with loads of pictures in it and I would like to extract (if thats the correct terminology) into a series of GIFs or whatever....(have the individual files in a folder on me pc)

how do I do it?

Not particulary easy to reverse engineer a pdf document. You can open the entire document as images by opening it up in photoshop. Not sure if you can extraxt individual images though.
 
Doh! I was hoping there would be some kind of 'extract to' option that I had somehow missed.....now to track down who compiled the doc of our Christmas party..........
 
When opening a PDF in Photoshop there is an "images" check box at the top of the PDF prompt which enables you to open all the embedded images.

If you have Acrobat professional you can go to "Advanced > Document Processing > Extract All Images".
 
There’s always the ‘Printscreen’ method if all else fails.

Just press print screen with the images in view, go into paint and got to edit > paste. Then cut out the images and save them.
