Hi,

I have been given a Sinnis Matrix II (peugeot Sum-Up) scooter that is 2 years old and done just over 5k miles.

The problem with it is that some chavs tried to steal it. They borked the ignition lock, then cut the loom and tried to hot wire it. This didn't work so they left it alone. The owner then didn't use it for about 7months and it is been left out in the elements.

So today I took most of it apart and it looks to be in quite good condition. The front disc is rusty, the exhaust is a bit manky and the rear shocks are shocking. Apart from this, I would like to fire it up to see if it still works!

Check the fuel is not stale, oil is there, battery is charged - all ok :-)

But I have no ignition. I have drilled out the lock so I can now turn the key. I have checked it is making contact with the switches it needs to and it does. I charged the battery up to 12v, and I think I have wired it up correctly.

No matter what I try I can't get any thing to light up, or turn over. I have not had a ped before so am clueless to the starting procedure. Do you have to press this and twist that to get it to fire up (electric starter)?

The lock switch on the dash is set to off. Should I at least get lights and stuff when the ignition is on, a bit like in a car?

All fuses are ok, but I am yet to use a multimeter to see if anything is drawing a current, and the battery is still ok.

Any ideas?

Ta.

Here it is as I was pulling it apart.

You can see on the right, all the croc clips connecting the barrel to the loom.

From memory I have on the barrel side:

Red | Black | Black | black/White | Grey | Green

And on the loom:

Red | Black | Pink | Black /White | Grey | Green

I have tried swapping the blacks and pink but no dice.

I have checked the barrel. As I have drilled it out, I can remove it completely. The part at the back which I call the contacter seems to bridge the wires together when the key is turned.

I will get a multimeter on it tomorrow and see if any current is passing. A new lock barrael is about £60, but before I start dropping notes on this, I want to see if it still works :-)

Should do, it is about 2yrs old with only 5k miles. Apart from a few rusty bits over all it is very nice :-)

Woot got it to turn over and fire up!

The battery is caput, even though it did charge.

Nearly flooded the carb trying to get it going, now it fires everytime :-)

I guess I need to change the oil, plugs and get some fresh fuel in there.

Cheers.

Cheers,

I can get a new ignition barrel and key set for about £60, so now it runs seems worthwhile.

Or I add a DIY rfid keyless systems to it, that could be cool.

When I get it all it all back together i'll post a piccy :-)

Just got to go and get a CBT etc. As I know it I passed my full uk license in 1993, so that means I can use a 50cc, but a 125cc requires a CBT?

Ok a little update.

It starts always using a booster pack, so a new battery has been sourced :-)

Checked everything works and WD40'ed all the switches, they move freely now.

Put it all back together with 3 trim screws left over (god knows where they go!)

Had a little ride up and down the driveway - it is a sweet scooter!

There is a fuel leak somewhere, it pongs. I have traced it down to the filter (via fuel drip marks), so will investigate the couplings. Chances are the filter is blocked after all that standing.
