Well i don't think that classes as gross misconduct so unless you were on probation it's illegal for them to fire you. You have to get a series of formal verbal and written warnings first before they can fire you.

Depends really. I've had a few disciplinary meetngs before but for gross misconduct you can be sacked on the spot as far as I'm aware. Not quite sure if what he did would fall under that as he never assaulted anyone etc.
