The MoBo is acctully a "Asus P5KC Combo Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard"
...yes i have heatsink btw

To start am not a fan of ATi at all... but with possable persuasion who knows.

I was leaning towards getting a 8800gts 640Mb (BFG)
but really the price is a bit steep and get hold ov a second hard one is a bit hard.... so i was finking bout getting much lower model then upgrade in about a year but i need opinions.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-048-BG
I noticed this? but like i sed its hell of a step lower... and i dunno if it just me but cheap for the Chip.

I have at VERY max just under 200 to play with but would be better to wait a lil for price fall ...?

Cheers

All depends on how much you like to game...

October 29th is when the 8800GT's arrive.

Performance is supposedly a little bit faster than a current 8800GTS - though nothing concrete is known yet. Price will be below £200.

In order to game at 1680*1050 you're going to need an 8600GTS minimum, an 8500GT is not going to cut it i'm afraid.

yeah i see... well i can play in 1280 x 1024 would that make it any better, i don't mind dropping my res... Al have alook round for sum info on the GT's now unless u have a link?

sorry i fort it sed 8800GTS not 8600 minimum...so the 8800GT should be able t handle it? :)
May aswell wait if reviews are ok.

if your getting an 8800 don't go any lower than 640mb. i have a 320mb version and i feel they have a lack of performance power when it comes to higher resolution, just because of the memory limit.

What's the point in buy a new rig, a high resolution display and playing at a low res???

2nd'd - 2900 Pro/XT, or 8800 GTS 640 MB / 8800 GTX are the only cards you should be looking at for now.

You could wait for the next nvidia card, but frankly you have all that kit waiting so I would one of those cards next day delivered to your place pronto. Just get whichever you can afford.

Well, if this is true, that's it for me then.
Better than GTS performance, and less than £200... and almost here?
Assuming at least 512mb on that card, sounds great, and should allow me to play current (and Crysis/UT3 etc) until the GeForce 9 series show their head.

Perfect!

Thanks,
V1N.

2900Pro 512MB is the card to go for. Sapphire is on special which saves you a bit & itll clock to XT speeds. Best value card in the highend at the moment.

i am now thinks about getting the saphire 9200pro only thing that puts me off is it dnt state a warrenty. i like them specially the bfg life ones ya see !

Will be a 256mb and a 512mb version, both below £200 at least. The 8800GT should be as fast or a tiny bit faster than a current 8800GTS as the current 320mb GTS is being canceled and the 640mb is being improved. Still nothing concrete yet - but its looking good.

I'd take the 2900 Pro at that price mate. It's the same as the XT card so will clock and/or flash to those speeds and beyond (the XT is a £230 card); it will match or beat the GTS in most benchmarks, especially with the latest performance-boosting 7.10 drivers. :)

Aye, Pointless playing 4:3 on a monitor that can do 16:10, my 7300gt can do 1440x900 with a high setting so i think the 2900pro will be plenty for 1680x1050.

Another vote for the 8800 GT, can handle AA, wont need a power plant to run it, doesn't sound like a ******* boeing 747 taking off, and won't give out as much heat, and it'll be faster, or wait for the much faster 640mb GTS thats coming with 112 streams. :p
