OK - so most people probably didn't even notice by absence for the past month or so, no real reason why they should.
I'm usually quite active on these forums - trying my best to cause trouble here, in motors or as a pro-Microsoft person in the software forums.

Anyway, I'm back.
As for the reason behind my five weeks away - well I like to do things in style.
I've been in hospital with Pneumonia and a Pulmonary Embolism.
Not bad going when all I thought was wrong with me was the 48hr stomach bug that was doing the rounds a month ago or so.

To those that contacted me (see, there are some who care :) ) I'm well on the road to recovery and in 1-2 weeks time I should be back to work once more.

I'd just like to add that if ever you are given a choice of illness to have I cannot really recommend either of the two above and especially not both at the same time - to be honest they were a real pain to have.

Admit it... you were the guy standing in the road weren't you?

That stomach bug story just doesn't wash at all :p

Blimey, another one! Glad you're OK mate. Lung infection doesn't sound good!
I was more shocked about the Pulmonary Embolism which contributes to 15% of sudden deaths. Dude, you're younger then me. Any factors that may have caused that? Cholesterol, injury, etc.? Can pneumonia do that?

Just answering this question - not bumping :)

Health wise I'm not 100%.
I suffer from something called "Nephratic Syndrome" - suffer isn't really the right word and it isn't as bad as it sounds.
Basically my kidneys leak a little protein - not the end of the world.
I have also been diagnosed with slightly raised cholesterol (a year or so ago) however the medication for that has bought me right down into the near normal range.

According to the doctor the PE was basically a secondary symptom from the pneumonia.
Basically I did myself no favours as I spent nearly a week at home with what I thought was a general sickness which was actually pneumonia.
So when I eventually went to A&E my sats were at 82% and I was in a pretty bad way.

It's not until after the event when you realise you've had a blood clot on the lung and you know that many a person has died from such a situation that you realise how lucky you are.
In all fairness I don't think I was really at that level of risk - as of now they are allowing the clot to disapate on its own accord, they didn't and have no plans on using any clot-busting drug on me.
I am on Warfarin and will be for a minimum of six months - but getting through all this and having to take 2 tablets every day is a small price to pay!

I think 'lardy' would have been more polite.

:D

LOL
Let us just say I'm not skin and bone!
Basically when I was diagnosed with high cholesterol I was bigger than I'd ever been in my life - and I wasn't happy with myself.
I would work all day, mainly from behind a desk and then do sod all in an evening when I got home.
I hadn't realised how bad I'd got until I saw my wedding photographs - I couldn't believe how big I'd got.

So this triggered a major change in my lifestyle.
My diet which wasn't actually too bad to start with was improved.
I started walking to shops rather than driving.
I'd spend time during my lunchbreak at work going out for a walk and the wife and I joined a gym which we go to at least twice a week, usually 3 times.
I went from being able to walk slowly on a treadmill for 10 minutes before getting a pain in my back to being able to walk 6-7km in a session and feeling great about it.

The ironic thing is that health wise I wasn't actually too bad, however within a month of starting my healthier lifestyle I was diagnosed with Nephratic Syndrome and an underactive thyroid!
Kind of "Health fine until I attempt to improve it and then find I've got things wrong with me" - no justice!

Anyway, I'm not skin and bones but thanks to my lifestyle change I'd say I'm in the "who ate a lot of the pies" category now rather than "who ate all of the pies".
But the weight is still coming off and once they have my thyroid levels fully sorted out I'm informed weight loss will be even easier.
