I have to admit Origin isn't bad.

Ok, that I don't get. The download is performed once. The RAM issue is a constant once the program is running. So why would you prefer good performance once then poor performance constantly after that?

As I said, RAM is cheap, but I don't have enough storage space in my SAN to actually store all my steam games (I imagine my steam account is larger than average, so I spend time downloading and I dislike waiting.

Yeah Ram is cheap, in fact I only have 8gb which is not much compared to some people here, max I have used is 5gb which was with the Mass Effect HD textures. Most of the time it is 3-4gb, that is with Origin and games running. If it was 7-8gb used I would worry about it :) So surely it can't be that bad with ram as I would guess most people have 4-8gb so there would be no issues. But hey could be wrong.

I have no issues running Origin.. It's not installed so there's no issue.

EA's record with their customers data is deplorable, and Origin is basically a spyware engine, that you allow EA to do whatever they please with your data, including sell it to anyone EA fancies..

No thanks.

Definitely, no way I'll be buying any multi-platform games on Origin, only the exclusives like Battlefield 3. Speed has gone up to 10mb/s now! Why can't Steam do this? Awful servers.

its probably bs, whats your connection? mine was 30mb and i was getting 6mb download which was a complete lie, maybe ea have done this on purpose to get new customers and to wow existing ones

Secondary reasons
When picking between the two, its an issue of trust. EA has an history of screwing customers; valve have been pretty good support wise with game server browsers still running for their original games. They both make mistakes, but from an objective point of view, I'd say EA is openly hostile to customers.

Genuine question... could you point me to a source which shows EA being openly hostile to customers? I've generally heard that their support is pretty good, and they usually give out some type of voucher or game unlock as compensation for any problems.

I don't understand the whole launch a program (origin) to launch a browser (battle log) to launch a game (bf3). Why can't I just have a shortcut to the game :(

To launch ME3MP is worse - launch origin, wait (cancel dlc downloads), launch me3, wait, wait some more, dlc checks, connecting to EA servers, another dlc check, launch multiplayer, wait, eventually get into character select screen...

...and when you finally end up playing there's a high chance of losing connection, waiting for me3 and origin to sort themselves out. Can't even exit the game quickly. It's a mess.

I had a couple of issues once and indeed the online chat was superb, got me sorted without hassle and I got a voucher. Steam did not do that when I had issues launching L4D2 when I first got it.

The thing is, every time you download a game on Origin, EA drowns a kitten.

Actually I think they do that anyhow, regardless.

Well I would like to play BF3 but because it is locked into Origin I will not be getting it.

I want all my games in one place and I despise EA so I won’t be buying into their distribution service.

Hopefully steam will end up getting the game like they have with Crysis 2 and i shall give it a go.

Battlelog is the best game stat logger thing I've ever used, how can you not like it?!

If it was just a stat logger, that'd be fine. I'd prefer a game shortcut which launches straight to menu, server browser etc than a web browser alternative. Not that it makes much difference, but it isn't as seamless IMO.

I couldn't for the life of me copy/paste my BF3 install after reformat, so am downloading the whole lot again  How can something so simple be so difficult. Steam manages it fine

You mean apart from buying out and subsequently killing $insert_favorite_franchise? Do you need more?

I think you're suffering from taking the words too literally, but the EA business plan often tends to be buy upcoming / leading franchises and then gut or milk their games until their reputation is in tatters. They've been doing this for a long time and over the years, many gamers have built up some distain for their publishing practises. Its quite well documented and this is the #1 biggest reason to dislike EA. Good games coming out of EA seem to be in spite of EA.

Other reasons here: http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Why-People-Hate-EA-Ten-Simple-Reasons-43696.html

Everything said about EA can pretty much be said about Activision too. Funnily enough, I think they might also be the two biggest publishers around.

I believe this wasn't mentioned in the above link:-

I can still play games from the 90s online, but apparently I'll struggle to play some of EAs games for the mid to late 10s online now.
