I have too much stuff, what to do ?

My current PC lineup goes something like this :

Gaming PC. Athlon 64, 2gb DDR, Radeon X1900 XT,
Spare PC1 P4B 2.26ghz, 2gb DDR, Radeon 9700, 160gb RAID 0 S-ATA array
Spare PC3 Athlon XP1700, 512mb DDR, Geforce 2 Graphics, 160 RAID 0 IDE array

and to make matters worse, im thinking of ditching the A64 for my gaming PC and getting a conroe system

meaning a whole new batch of DD2 memory. So i was thinking of recylcing the Athlon 64 stuff into a HTPC.

only trouble is, my wife will go spare at me for a fourth PC.

Anybody else have this trouble, and crucially what do your other halfs say about you having oodles of PC stuff lieing "spare"

and 2ndly, what do i with the Athlon XP system, its not gonna be worth anything surely ?

See if you can sell the rig.

If it does not sell then donate it to a charity that deals with PC's and sending them to third world countries. That PC could run a hospital nicely.

I can help with the second part if you like.

(That is serious not a joke, never skip a PC!)

"Im giving it to charity" goes better with the other half than its being binned, think you will agree.

i will take it off your hands, but seriously i would ditch the amd xp spare rig as you have a perfectly good pentium spare rig, i would also make that into a htpc and keep your a64 as a spare as it will be faster

i just dont need 2 spare PCs though

i just built the system as it was spare parts lieing around

its got an ugly beige steel chassis (the first i ever bough)

an athlon XP 1700 and old mobo (doesnt even have S-ATA) but it is an Abit BD7 II Raid so has onboard IDE raid

i could probably recycle the IDE hard disks, and skip the chassis

but the Amd cpu and mobo isnt going to be worth much surely ?

My sister would LOVE that third rig you have (seriously, she's running a 400mhz celeron, 64mb sdram, and I couldn't even install the video/sound drivers because I don't know what they are (lol), soooo yeah.. it struggles with msn, which is why I always come home to find her on my computer (only just managed to kick her off it lol).

I'd pay shipping + a bit for it

Get yourself over to the members market and sell any of the rigs you want to get rid of. They should go quick enough.

not wanting to turn this thread into a selling one

complete rigs never sell do they ?

nearly every time a rig gets posted in FS, they allways get asked if they're willing to break it

i never considered selling it as a complete unit.

i wasnt questionning your masculinty or your ability to pull :rolleyes:

i was merely making an observation that you most probably dont live with a better half. most women do not understand the need for vast ammount of PC bits lieing about the place, let alone having them running in the background 24/7 folding

juding by the fact you've only just turned 18, im guessing i was right.

anyway, personally i'd sell them... if you don't think you can get much for them or its not worth selling then definately do what Yewen suggested and donate them.
