I have uninstalled all other media players and codecs on my computer and am just left with WMP11 and played a movie I got which is XVID and it was able to play. Which is strange as in the past it would look for codecs and only play the audio while the screen was black. Now it plays the file just fine. How is this possible. Does WMP11 now play XVID? The movie has mp3 stereo 2 channel sound. I used that program called mediainfo which is where I got all these details from.

It's either WMP11 can now play XVID or there is in fact a codec that is stored somewhere on my PC not being deleted!

What do you think guys?

Many thanks in advance

CCCP is the ONLY codec pack to use/but maybe you were having incompatibilities with your codecs before uninstalling them?

Sorry I don't understand what you mean?

You want me to download CCCP?

I don't need to the movie is playing fine, I just don't understand how it can be playing does WMP11 support xvid?

Sorry for not understanding you

kind regards

Get yourself a copy of a program called gspot ( no it not naughty!)

open gspot , drag and drop your file into it , it will then check to see
what codec your PC will use to play that file. You can also override codec priority with this program ( BUT be carefull )

Another prog to show what is being used to play files a graphedit.

Hope this helps , it must be god damn aweful having to use wmp11.
My condolences

What i meant was you may have had problems with your previous codecs interfering with media player playing the file.
I was recommending CCCP to avoid any issues in the future :)
Is the file not AVI?:confused:first line in your details for the file says
Format : AVI
Format/Info : Audio Video Interleave
File size : 348 MiB
Duration : 42mn 2s
Overall bit rate : 1 159 Kbps
Writing application : VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.2 (build 2540/release)
Writing library : VirtualDubMod build 2540/release
Yeah as mentioned above GSPOT is a good app for identifying media files :)

Many thanks for your replies

But media info is just as good as all these other apps I have heard.

The stuff I posted above is from media info

AVI isn't a video format itself - it's a container format. You can have lots of different video formats inside an AVI file. The video format of the file is XviD.

I'm fairly sure WMP won't play an XviD file out of the box. But why did you decide to delete all of your codecs anyway?
