I join the 300bhp club next week.

I see the 'FWD SUX' brigade are out in force again

I've said it before and I'll say it again, there is nothing wrong with a decent FWD as long it has a good chassis, is well set up and has a decent LSD. Such a car can be huge amounts of fun, you can really take them by the scruff of the neck and 'play' with the chassis, having fun with lift off oversteer, using the diff to pull a tighter line in corner, etc etc. Give me a good FWD over a mediocre RWD any day of the week.

Please note I am talking about FWD in general terms, not the VXR in particular, which I agree is hardly the epitome in FWD dynamics, especially with 300+ bhp....

Maybe so but MY Astra ticks all the boxes.

Power? Check. LSD? Check. Updated chassis? Check. Fast road geometry setup? Check. Uprated Brakes? Check.

It's probably around 6.5-7.0 seconds as it is but it's mid range punch is where the fun is. I've never been one for traffic GP's.

I'd guess it would be in the 5s if the manufacturers figure is anything to go by.

Mine is reported to do it in 5.9 as it is now.

I've got an Integra DC5 with about 230bhp and an LSD and tbh i don't think i'd want any more power in a FF car, its crazy enough as it is in the wet.

A DC5 is perfectly controllable with that power and in the wet. It's not like you have the torque or the power delivery of a turbo car to contest with.

Having driven one in those conditions, i'm struggling a bit to understand how you came to that conclusion.

Looking to upgrade to a Z4M Roadster. Currently waiting for a nice specced Interlagos blue on AUC to pop up. To save derailing this thread, there is a "spec me" thread I made a few weeks back.

That was one of the only answers which has stopped me calling you a chode.

Good effort :D

IMO a hot hatch is a compromise of performance and convenience. When you get a company car, the convenience isn't important, so it opens up a lot of interesting and tempremental cars which would otherwise be ruled out.

Sadly most of the really interesting and tempremental cars don't tend to be on company car lists.

I had a 300Bhp Astra Vxr.. Hated it, was horrible to drive way way to much power for a front wheel drive car.. I sold it after a couple of weeks and bought a Impreza P1 a whole new world of fun compared to Fwd....

Just my 2p worth...
