It was an impulse buy. I've played the FEAR multiplayer, it was alright, nothing special. I've played Quake 3 Arena years ago and that was fun!

I hear not too good things about these games. Which one is the better? I'll play that first :)

P.S - I also heard they're resource hogs :(

Depends entirely on your pc as their both relativley old games in terms of hardware requirements.

I'd say Fear > Quake 4

I remember playing Fear on my x800 pro just fine. Your ram might be a problem though.

Quake 4 should be fine I would have thought. You'd do well to tweak it and not go OTT on the res.

A lot of people don't like Quake 4. I, however, found it to be a great game. Loved the atmosphere it created. I was a little disappointed with the outdoor areas due to having a static, low quality skyline and horizon but the indoor areas looks awesome on full whack.

Well put it this way I sold Quake 4 last week. Fear personally is an awesome game on single player. Multiplayer however is pretty crap.

Quake 4's single player is alright nothing amazing like Quake 2 anyway. The multiplayer is meh... but then again it is a Quake game I guess. As soon as you join same old 20 players jumping about firing rocket launchers

F.E.A.R. > Quake4

Both are quite good but for some reason F.E.A.R. interested me more, I am more interested in fighting with a creepy storyline

If you take away the creepy storyline though, FEAR isn't really that special as an FPS. Just lots of corridors and warehouses, it really starts to grate after a while.

At least quake had a bit more variety, and I just love the doom engine to bits, think it looks ace. It also had *that* bit with the circular saws and screaming and blood. Top notch :p

I bought them both on budget whn i got my new comp. Quake4 i quite liked but it became too repetitive and i got bored about halfway through. FEAR i absolutely loved and played through to the finish, FEAR is probably as repetitive as Q4 to be fair but the combat is so visceral and satisfying that i wasnt so bothered about the lack of variation from level to level.

Not a huge fan of either game personally.

FEAR has some excellent combat and visuals, but the office environments get a bit bland and samey. There is also far too little characterisation of the secondary characters - you seem them a fair bit at the start of the game, then all of a sudden they don't say much. Missed opportunities there e.g. during helicopter ride.

Quake 4 on the other hand is a fairly basic shooter, plays like an inferior version of Doom3 with silly console-style vehicle sections. The boss fights are good though.

If I had to pick one I'd have to go for FEAR, simply because the actual combat/AI is very good.

Quake4 is a ok game
but fear kicks its a** and its a very good game so id say play fear then the add on (i havent played the add on yet )
then play Quake4

I think fear using about 1.4 gb so with 1 gig it uses the hd a lot that why i upgraded to 2 gig it stopped almost all of the stutter apart from checkpoints saves and they were 1 sec orso.

The prob. with Q4 is no one plays, the game is alright multiplayer. I have the Weapns of Destruction mod, great mod if I could find anyone to play with. As for fear the have a free Multiplayer version at www.joinfear.com

I've played a good 2 hours on both games now. They both run fine on my system with medium settings and look very good indeed without stuttering.

First of, Quake 4. Reminds me very much of Doom 3. I feel it's a linear game. You can't move around much. There isn't much more than aim, shoot and kill. I'm disappointed with it as it's a recent game too. What I do like about it is the way I can just pick up and play and shoot the monsters with no nonsense.

FEAR, it's a good game. First couple of levels I was thinking what the hell am I doing and what is going on. After that, it got a bit better. It's less linear than Quake but still you can only progress one way in a level. I enjoy it but I can't just pop the CD in and play like Quake. I have to be "in the mood" :p

I'd say I like Quake 4 and FEAR equally but they're not the best games I’ve played.

I had the same spec for fear and had to upgrade to 2 gig it help a lot.
I liked fear best

when playing FEAR with 2 gig ram, windows xp and nothing else running, my free ram would drop as low as 300mb
