I play PC games perhaps 3x a week, no more than 40min-1hr a go.

I am very much fed up of Origin and Steam constantly updating just as a settle in to play a game. There is an update every week...it takes no more than a minute to download but it is really annoying me now.

I feel like I'm not in control of playing a game anymore..

Worse still, is Origin making you download 6Gb worth of updated image files (which may or may not contain premium content that the end user may not even want to buy) in order to play BF3.....With no option of saving the update, if for any reason u need to reinstall from scratch, that will be about 35Gb worth of downloads in total.

I am currently in the situation where I have several games on STEAM, two of which I really wanted to play when I am offshore (which I am just now). But STEAM isn't letting me play them. It tells me that it has no recollection of my password on this computer (DAMN LIES I TELL YOU!) and that I must reconnect to the STEAM server (something I wont be able to do until I am back onshore) in order to get access to games that I paid for.

You feel like you are no longer in full control of your gaming mostly because you aren't. There have been some snidey little changes to the T&C's that everyone agrees to without reading. It used to be that when you bought a game, you owned the physical copy of the game and full rights to its private use. Now when you buy a game, you don't have ownership of the game as such, but rather have the legal right to play the game, subject to external conditions set out be the publisher over which you have no control, and may change without warning at any given time.

Take control back of your gaming. Any game forcing you onto STEAM/Origin? Just pirate it. As long as you arent bothered about online play this will make your life much simpler and give u a much better casual gaming experience.

Dont they do sat link on an oil rig or does that still need another connection type to work. You are posting so...

Unsurprisingly, connections to GAMING websites/servers are blocked. Or certainly Steam is blocked. Besides the point though. The fact that this is even an issue with STEAM is shocking and anti-customer.

Must be plenty of people who for some reason or another, find themselves without internet and/or ability to connect to STEAM who then cant access upwards of dozens of games that they paid for.

I resisted STEAM for years, just pirating anything that made me use it. Then, cos I like to 'support' devs for products that give me enjoyment by buying thier products, I caved in. But after this, never again. Skidrow 4 the win.

Wait till you have updated steam and want to play ACIII after a clean install
Download steam
Install steam
Download ACIII
Launch uplay
Update uplay
Create uplay account
Launch game
Update game
Play game...

If people have to live there I reckon thats unfair, not sure I see the point to it. The reason I mention it is there are sometimes ways around it with proxies or I imagine some clever chap has a solution (besides cracking, skidrow are donkeys years old remember them from amiga)

Get better internet, problem sorted

Get better eyesight, y0 :D

I know the feeling. Origin seems the worst offender. What could possibly require a client update so often? Is it just advert material that I never see? :p
