Rant incoming....

Got Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War free with my GPU. I just want to play the single player campaign.

After taking almost a day to download the biggest file size game ever, you then have to set up a Blizzard account, then download and set up a Battlenet account, then it prompts you for some other account, then it makes you sign into or create an Activision account, then it says connecting to a server which then doesn't connect and it just keeps going on and on and on and on.

Arrrrrrrrrrg. I just want to try out the ******* game.

Why do they do this? Why? It does not need to be like this, so why do they do it?

If I had a physical copy of this **** I would have taken it out, snapped it in half and binned it.

As I don't have this option, can anyone tell me how to get to, and just play the single player game please.
When it loads it puts me to a screen saying connecting to call of duty online, then says I'm in a server queue. The only option is to Quit to desktop, nothing else. I don't want to be in a server queue, I just want to get to the single player campaign.

....Rant over. For now.

Buy an Xbox Series X?

But I agree - I hate that most about my PC. If I have not had my PC on for a few days and I want to play something usually I have a massive patch, a windows update or 2, a STeam update etc. And by the time that's all finished, the 1 hour I had free for gaming is gone.

ON Series X, I come into room, pick up controller and playing game within 10 seconds.

Sounds like Nvidia control panel, need to log in to download patches...or origin that always after an update requires passwords again.

Hate logins

I feel your pain fellow person.

I have the opposite problem, I use my XBox so rarely it usually needs an update when I turn it on. And why oh why does it take longer to verify the install than to download it, similarly to actually install it, yawn.

I got a voucher with my new GFX card, Call of Duty is not really the sort of game I play but I was going to give it a whirl. Maybe not now......

You may think I’m being hyperbolic but my experience with this game today is an allegory for everything that’s wrong in the world today.

it’s a microcosm example. Seriously. I have had some wine though.

Thiese kinds things 100% **** me off and for that reason I would not buy this type of game.

I miss the days of going to computer fairs, picking up games that came with a mahoosive manual, cloth maps and metal medallions, then going home, banging in the cd and just playing the game!

Internet didn't exist so the game had to work (literally) out of the box.

How things have changed, you buy a game now and you know it will come borked and require a day one patch and then further patches along the line.

At least some games still let you skip these steps :(

There really are far too many games out there that force you to create like 3 accounts and sign into some completely useless "social club", etc. just to play the basic game even if you have no intention of using features that require such functionality :(

Between that and so many developers not getting the basics right I've kind of fallen out of love with PC gaming and more and more just find myself dabbling with modding older games to amuse myself instead.

You aren't far off TBH - short sighted stupidity is taking over the world :(

Pretty sure it did.

It might as well have not existed as far as games go up until what 91/92? I remember downloading games/patches at school around 93/94 or so.
