I keep getting blue screens :(

I kept having blue screens on my P5Q-E, it took a modded bios to fix it, since then (4+ months), not a single blue screen.

Something seems wrong if the manufacturer's own BIOS doesn't work though. I doubt they would release a BIOS to the public which had major issues with regular blue screens with a supported CPU.

I think you have too much faith in the manufacturer.

They can't even maintain a reliable website.

I don't know :) I know when I was looking for a 775 motherboard for my recent upgrade, it was a nightmare because every board I looked at seemed to have issues, going by user reviews. In the end I got a less fashionable and lower end board simply because all the user reviews were positive. I think sometimes less fancy boards are less likely to have issues.

Wez. I had this recently. Cost me a fortune finding out the problem.

I had random blue screens and lockups.

So I changed the motherboard, PSU and lastly the memory.

Also my old case was a state and may have been causing shorts so I bought a new case too.

But it turned out to be the memory. So it cost me about £200 for a bit of fault finding! :p

Lol Peter, i've ran memtest on my memory, which seems to be fine. Another thing too, when i shut my pc down, it doesn't shut down, it restarts instead, i'm beginning to think it's a mobo problem now :(

Are you absolutely Positive that your Mobo is mounted correctly, Are all the little spacer thingys located properly ? Also dis connect & re connect your front panel. Check all screws to everything, take them all out & re seat them.

As i posted above, i completely stripped and rebuilt it yesterday, this included removing the motherboard from the case and re-seating it, it is mounted completely perfect. I disconnected everything from the board too, this included front panle and top USB's.

It did cross my mind, but according to bios, voltages are all as they should be, i.e 12v rail is at 12.03v and 5v is at 4.97v etc

well I've just flashed my bios to latest version, restarted pc and it tells me bootmgr is missing:( so now I'm having to reinstall vista again.

strange, gone into bios and it still says it's the old one. Vista. Still won't install on my other drive.

can't even get windows back on LOL. It's failed twice now, once on each drive, I've stripped down to 1 stick of ram and 1 hd and trying again. I find it strange that my bios hasn't updated, just tried again within the bios and still the same. I'll be tearing my hair out before long grrr.

Right, i *think* i've sourced my problem, i reinstalled Vista on my main HD after taking a stick of RAM out and it was successful, i then got a blue screen whilst installing audio drivers, so i swapped the memory for the other stick, and nothing since, it's behaving impeccably, installed and played HL2 to test it, and it even switched off when i turned it off instead of restarting. So i think it's a dodgy stick of RAM or my motherboard doesn't like running in dual channel mode.
