I know it’s naughty…..

Great here about 25c but its too hot to go out in full leathers in this traffic :p so ill go out this evening when its cooler :p
Have a good ride!

Its pretty hot here aswell. Im thinking of taking the bike out for a bit later this evening. Not sure where exactley, will just go where the roads take me :D

They are the people who have the right idea. Realised that a bike is totally impractical as a means of transport but great for thrills on the weekend. Why not have a great looking bike and matching leathers, good for them they obviously take pride in it. You seem to get worked up easily about it, whys that?

Probably because the majority of bikers get tarred with the same brush as the weekend warriors - those with matching leathers and bikes, who only go out in good weather and ride like they own the place.

Edit: What planet are you on that leads you to believe a bike is impractical as a means of transport? Shorter journey times and often more economical. I can see how those two make it really impractical.

I saw someone doing this on the commonhead roundabout the other day, was a bloke on a gsxr 1000, properly getting his knee down round the roundabout, first time i've really seen anyone doing it on the roads. Might have been the same guy you were with.

For your information I have lost friends to death or serious injury. We are all aware of the risks and frankly the benefits far outweigh them for us. However bringing it up in a light hearted discussion about having some fun is a bit of a crappy way to put a dampner on everyone.

I have lost my best friend and nearly lost my brother to bikes, but theres nothing thats ever going to stop me getting on mine, my brother is now back on a bike, and we were both with my mate when he died, we are true bikers and theres nothing better than a clean dry, back road, with lots of twisties and small hump back bridges.

I am a fair weather rider, the only time i get wet is when im touring and have to get somewhere, i really dont see the fun in riding in the rain or ice the only good thing i can think of about that kind of weather is getting of the bike.

Oh im a knee down virgin as well, i dont ride the right bike to do it and never will.

Dont get into a discussion about bikes with atpbx hes not a 'Bikers' so he doea not understand theres not point you will be here all night with him lol :p

Its not the art of getting your knee down that makes you a better rider, getting your knee down is a part of hanging off the bike which enables your bike to corner harder faster and more stable, you dont see fast riders riding around without moving their body for no reason.
Knee down on the road is Pointless really but if you can get your knee down your hanging off the bike (unless you have stupidly long legs :p) which will help your cornering ability no end, ive marshalled plenty of racer where the winner by a mile might have got his knee down once.

I see absolutely no correlation with getting your knee down and 'safety'..

Most people I see getting their knee down on the road are just on empty roundabouts and in reality, most are just hanging off very very far with the bike still fairly upright, you could comfortably ride around them with your knees up, just leaning a few degrees more..

In my experience, people are alert and controlled when doing it, and not riding on the limit, requiring it..

Would you not just 'jar' against the road at such low speed?

I would have thought (no bike experience) that you would need to be going a touch faster?

Depends on the knee slider :D but no at slower speed you have to force the steering into it more but you can do it, much easier 30-40mph without any effort.

Id say this guy is doing about 20mph http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TvoeTfrQDw

That's what I saw when watching some MCN video, but I found that by doing that the bike stayed upright.

That's kind of the point- by moving your weight you can get round the same corner at the same speed with less lean, or alternatively take the same corner faster with the same lean.

Personally, I always felt that too many people go out to do it for its own sake- when you see the monkey-hanging some people do just to get their knees down, while actually riding slowly and erratically, it's horrible. If it comes naturally then it's fine, if you're reaching for it then it's not. Just ride the bike and see what happens, is the way to go.

I can't do it any more and it doesn't make me slower, it's quite nice to just get on with actually riding the bike :D

That is quite amusing watching people do that :D, riders trying to get their knee down when they arent even confident to take a roundabout at 40mph nevermind get their weight shifted to the side
