I lack motivation...

Glad I'm not alone :) On TrueAchievements I think my completion average is about 34% achievement wise so I don't generally get half way in my games which sucks.

I agree totally with someone who posted before saying that coming back to a game you've forgotten the controls and if you were playing on hard (as I tend to do) being crap half way through a game means you just constantly die or fail for an hour or so until you get into the flow which is precious time lost when you're limited to time.

I wish games weren't so long. It seems to be a selling point in game reviews ("it'll last you 25 hours on your first playthrough!") - I don't want that. I'd rather have a really high quality 8-10 hour game that I can actually finish (and be bothered to) than one that lasts so bloody long I just can't be bothered to go back to it.

The ones I've enjoyed most and/or completed have been relatively short games, but REALLY good for the duration they last.
Yup i agree, hate free roaming games too

I am the same now.

I just can't be bothered to play any games on anything. The only thing i do is play cod4 on the 360 for about 1hr a month lol

I most definitely lack motivation, got about 7 games that i bought, was all excited about playing and then they have just been sitting there. Really should get around to it.

Solution:

Fire up Steam, open up friends and set to appear offline. ;)

Result:

Best single player gaming experience evarrr.

I'm really good at starting games....

Currently waiting to be finished after a few hours play:

Batman:AA
Uncharted 2
Ratchet & Clank - Crack in Time
Valkyria Chronicles
Assassin's Creed 2
The Saboteur
Dragon Age Origins (Both on PC & PS3)
Mass Effect 2
.... etc.. (about 15 more titles at least)

In fact, last year I probably finished about 4 games, but started about 25 :D

And then there's the pre-orders arriving in the next couple of months....

A good job I just finally ordered ArmA 2, so I won't run out of things to play

EDIT: I finished MW2 though - I didn't think much of it, but it was so short that even I finished it.

Uncharted 1 & 2 are those games that you start playing and just don't stop "usually" (In my case I played about 6 hours worth in one evening and had to force myself to stop so that I made it last a bit longer)

I was really into mass effect 2 and played it nearly every day but now I load it up and just can't be bothered so quit and play something else like brutal legend.

The only reason Uncharted 2 isn't finished, is because I started it last weekend, and want to finish this weekend - I don't like playing it for just an hour at a time. I played the first 2 thirds (chapter-wise) across the 2 days.

I think this applies to some other games as well, which is why I never fire them up as I don't have a long enough 'session' to justify it. Probably the wrong way to look at it, but I never seem to realise this at the time !

Trick is to not just buy every game you spot that has a shiny cover.

Buy a game, and play it to completion before starting the next, especially if you have limited gaming time.

Back when I was a student I just used to buy everything that came out as I had the time spare (dirty lazy student scum!).

Now i'm married with kids i've learnt to pick and choose my gaming and I find I get much more out of my gaming time now, playing a story through to completion, taking my time to explore etc.

Much more enjoyable, without having to worry about 'getting it finished' so I can start the next one.

same here, i love to research and buy new games but as i play the excitement fades away.. current games ive yet to complete

resistance 1
Heavenly sword
Infamous
Prototype
GTA4
Metal Gear Solid 4

which is pretty much my entire PS3 collection.
bought demons soul's a month ago, kept dieing on 2nd boss so just gave up.. really hope it get back into it.

last game i completed was bioshock 1 just before bioshock 2 was released, cannot even remember what is was before , its been that long.

Got Heavy Rain coming in the morning and Final Fantasy coming in a week+ i really hope i find the motivation to complete these...

I was going through the same thing, buying games and just leaving them unplayed on the shelf or just scratching the first few levels and then loosing interest. What I have done to get back in to gaming and playing through games is to forget popular opinion and other peoples thoughts on what they like and play what you find fun. I downloaded demos of games I thought I might like and played them and realised how much enjoyed the likes of DMC, so now I am moving away from fps and playing more demonic hack and slash and couldn't be happier.

completing DMC is great fun :D

I've been like this lately aswell actually, my incomplete games list is growing at the same speed as my new games list... annoyingly. I used to complete pretty much every game I owned, but the last 5 or so are still sitting around incomplete. Think I'm just getting bored of the same stuff over and over, new games are rarely new, just shinier

I felt like this for a period and cured it with a wii - reinvented gaming for me.

Take Bioshock - bored me straight away but i've played so many games like this back from Doom, Timesplitters and Golden Eye. Very few FPS offer anything to me. GOW had the cover system which kept me interested. Uncharted 2 had great eye candy and just engaged me a lot more than Bioshock.

It's nothing new once you've been playing these games for awhile you realise they are basically all the same and just can;t be bothered for a bit. Then something refreshing comes along like Ico or the Wii and hooks you back in for a bit.

seriously? the Wii? what is there on that system that has anything to make you want to play?

Are you joking? The wii is the ground breaking system of this generation!

Yeah my xbox360 and ps3 are great but apart from some nice graphics and added game touches have they really offered me anything that I'd not already played with good old hand held controller on many consoles beforehand. No! Only the wii has done that.

Even if it was just wii sports with the gf - the wii brought something back that had been greatly missing to me from consoling gaming - FUN!

You are never too old for games :D

Maybe he just needs a little break from them. Take a week off without playing and then see if you get the urge.

If not take up drinking ;)

If you cant be bothered to finish them, try not to wory about it, these things happen. Ive got gta 4, operation flashpoint, avatar, forza 2, forza 3 ( whats with only 11% career completed in year 5 - insanse ) .... in fact i yet to finish a game aside from COD MW1. They are all good games but not worth any negative cognitive dissonance over. besides look out side, the nights are getting lighter, lets all go and suck up that fresh air instaed of 360 heated fan air!

Well, I'm back.

Completed Assassins Creed II, did as many of the trophies along the way (95%) which was good. Suprised at the rushed ending.. but that's another thread. On the other hand I caved and bought Heavy Rain

I'm going to finish GTA 4, Dead Space, MW2, Uncharted 2 soon (after Heavy Rain) before buying any more new games. Ultimately, I've discovered my problem is lack of real dedicated "play" time.. something I noticed with Heavy Rain.

The mrs used to moan when I fired up the PS3, but since she's gotten in to the Heavy Rain story she doesn't mind me firing it up. In fact she sits and watches making comments and telling me to do evil things haha.

Tip: Get a mrs who likes gaming.
