Bigger box!
So... as I'm sure most RPG fans who use this forum know, I've just played FFVII and loved it :D (Still yet to do the weapons)
Not so much success with VIII, but IX is more my cup of tea and I definitely fancy X too.

I've got a PS3 and had a cursory look for a next gen RPG but the vast majority of good JRPG's seem to be 360 exclusives... (Lost Odyssey, Star Ocean etc....).
The new Star Ocean in particular looks great!

I've had Tales of Valkyria (sp??) recommended to me too and I will give that a shot, but just thinking about the grand scheme of things... is the 360 a better console for RPG's?

Honestly a PS2 will set you up for the best JPGs as you will be able to play all the PS1 games too, and most truely epic JRPG's are on PS1/2.

Although I can understand the want to play some HD games.

The 360 has more JRPGs but there aren't many really great ones, whereas the PS3 has very few in total but just about as many great ones. With that said i still bought a 360 two days ago for the JRPGs :p

Neither console can compare to the PS2 (yet)

^^^ they speaketh the truth.

Before i sold my 60gig PS3 i was playing FFXII, Valkyrie Profile Silmaria 2, Shadow Hearts 1 + 2, Suikoden 4 (only a little) amongst others on it. Theres an rpg for whatever taste you have in rpgs on the ps2.

I would say so far this gen all the best JRPG have been on the hand helds or the PS2 (ok not this gen as such). I expect next year when all the other devs have seen what ff13 is doing they will follow. As for the 360 it has more JRPG but the only one i want to play Tales of Vesperia is being made for the PS3 and is being improved on so ill rather play that one.

Handhelds definitely the main player in RPGs this gen.

Crimsom Gem Saga has given me hours of fun so far. Breath of Fire, World Ends with You (DS), Final Fantasy DS remakes.

Other than them, PS2 all the way. I have enjoyed some of the Xbox360 RPGs but nothing compared to the charm of the Handheld ones.

The DS wins for RPGs. Tons of Final Fantasies, Chrono Trigger (better than FF7), Disgaea, Fire Emblem, Knights in the Nightmare, The World Ends With You, Mario and Luigi, Breath of Fire, and god knows what else.

To the OP. You are missing some good RPGs on 360, Aswell as some other quality games, that you may or may not be interested in.

1 of the most thought prevoking and artistically put together RPGs Eternal Sonata is only on 360

One of the best RPGs outside of the Final Fantasy series Lost Odyssey is only on 360

And to me, one of the coolest new spins on the Turnbased battle system in an RPG for a while can be found in The Last Remnant, on 360 or PC actually

You're always gonna miss out on something by not having all consoles.

When I was a kid, I never had a mega drive, only a snes. So even though I got and loved Zelda, I missed out on all the Mega drive RPGs

And not to mention Golden Sun DS coming out next year - the first two were beyond awesome.

Eternal Sonata actually came out on the PS3 as well in the end but you're right.

I loved Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon and The Last Remnant and whilst certainly not the best game ever made, Infinite Undiscovery isn't that bad.

I'm also working through Tales of Vesperia atm and loving it; then I have Star Ocean 4 sat on a shelf next to me.

As well as all these current JRPG 360 exclusives (Tales has now been released on the PS3 in Japan but no EU/US date has been confirmed) there are also Mass Effect and Fable 2, and both are superb.

EU isn't that great for PS3 JRPGs atm, currently there is Valkyria Chronicles, Folklore, Eternal Sonata, Disgaea 3, Cross Edge, Demon's Souls? There are quite a few jap titles though like Atelier Rorona, which is massive in Japan. A sequal to Zill O'll is announced as PS3 exclusive as well. White Knight Chronicles is due soon though, as well as FFXIV apparently.

Right..... Guess I'm just getting carried away really!!

Still to do the Weapons on FFVII, 'might' try VIII again once I've got a PS2 hooked up to the big TV, have FFIX here to do too, intend to play X as it looks wicked and I've just this minute ordered a copy of Valkyria Chronicles.......

I guess if FF XIII isn't out by the time I've done all of that then I can get Eternal Sonata too :D

Cheers Guys :)

Looks like a solid plan. You'll enjoy that lot. :)

Valkyria Chronicles arrived this morning, and I went and got my old PS2 from the old mans place, just need to get a PS1 card and I can try FFVIII again plus pick up a copy of FFX.....

I really wanted a next gen (current gen) RPG and Valkyria appears to be what I want and really highly recommended... However, FFX looks great so am I better off playing that first?

Basically, am I going to be dissapointed playing X after Valkyria?

Cheers :)

Both are very different games, did you try the VC demo on PSN?
