So I updated to Windows 10 preview....... And yes I know it was probably a stupid thing to do as now I want to go back to 8.1 but there's no option to do this.

I'm running an MSI GS70 2PE gaming laptop and i'm wondering will it work to buy Windows 8.1 (downloadable version), load it onto a USB and then reinstall it?

Anyone got any advice? Hope you can help!

My main issue is almost all my Steam games won't launch. Other than that it's fine and I love Windows 10! The laptop did have an OS installed but obviously it doesn't come with the disc or anything.

unless you have formatted and wiped all the partitions you should have a hidden recovery one. If you go into Disk Management (right click on start button) do you have such a partition on your main OS drive?

Steam games not launching won't be an issue of 10 itself, ask my steam games load fine. You'd be better off figuring out what is happening.

This is what it looks like. I'm guessing it has overwritten my old Windows 8.1 recovery drive though. When I installed the preview i wiped the hardrives.

Well I looked into it but everyone just blames it on Windows 10. It was mainly Source Engine games that wouldn't run. I tried updating Direct X and loads of other stuff but nothing worked.

I've contacted MSI about it and am hoping to hear back from them on Monday. Technically I have already bought a copy of Windows 8.1 with this laptop so i'm hoping they can provide me with the ISO file and be done.

Just not sure if it's that simple :/ Appreciate your help so far guys :P

The chances are that they won't provide you with an ISO because they're readily available from a multitude of sources.

Hmm so is using that Code going to give me an official copy? I'm confused, Don't want to do anything illegal XD

A placeholder key will allow you to install the relevant version. Nothing is illegal, everything is official.

1) Create a bootable USB Windows 8.1 installation key
Code:

2) Boot from USB key & install Windows 8.1 using placeholder key
3) Activate using your own key
