i mean just wtf have they done to deserve them ? (royals)

Even if they are the face of the UK, why don't we pay HER (yes the queen, not her cling ons) the same as the prime minister, he seems to get on OK.

mark up 1 more inaccuracy.

the UK pays the Queen around 7 million pounds a year. this goes to her personally. NONE of the rest of the royal family are 'given' anything, they are required to earn it through personal ventures just like you or I.

Another of the many benefits of the royals is the PM actually speaks to the Queen on a weekly basis, and can draw on 50 years of impartial advice regarding what's best for the country. Pretty much anyone who is accountable has an agenda, and politicians will always look out for themselves and their seat before the interests of the country as a whole. At least the Queen can provide them with some decent guidance.

And why on earth do you say she has a sorry existence? I'm genuinely interested in that point of view...

I'm a Royalist and I agree.
She works tirelessly for this country and she thinks the world smells of paint.
From the moment she gets up in a morning she is dealing with the UK's problems.
This is a job that nobody else could handle except Charles and I reckon William would have a massive problem.

I couldn't care less about the Royals. Well I only care about them in the same way I care about any other human being on the planet.

This.

Also has anyone actually got some figures for this "they bring £5squillion per day in via tourism" line that keeps getting trotted out? People don't come here to see the royal family, they come to see famous buildings and monuments which would still be there if we got rid of the royal family tomorrow. Look at cities like Paris, people still go there even though they've not had a monarchy for yonks.

I'm not anti-monarchy, but then I'm hardly the worlds biggest royalist. I appreciate the work *some* of them do for charities, Prince Charles in particular, but you can't say there aren't a few of them that could quite easily be trimmed off. Prince Edward I'm looking in your direction...

get rid of the queen and there's no more changing of the guard no more beef eaters etc, just buildings, which are fine and all, but that's what makes us different everywhere else you go to see the shells of a dead era here you get to see it all as its happening.

People come to see Buckingham palace not because it's a famous building but because "the Queen lives there". It isn't the same sort of thing as, for example, the Eiffel tower. People go to Paris more for its reputation as a romantic place to go than for some famous buildings. I doubt if most people in this country could name more than 3 famous buildings in Paris, possibly only the Eiffel tower, but they'd still go there because it has a reputation as a cool and romantic place.

Royals bore me, talk so slowly and stupidly with annoying voices, think they are so much higher then the rest when i never know of them doing anyyyything sept once a year sitting infront of a TV camera and saying alod of utter boringness..

I avoid it every year while my dad pretends to be a paton to the country that he sponged from himself..

Glad i dont live with him, can actually enjoy xmas!

Boreeeed.

And no busses out of Denholme infact in the whole of West Yorkshire, be it Forst of Keighley and District busses so... im bored :)

you might (but probably not) be interested in wtching the recent Royals program on BBC1, was very interesting to be honest.

Bear in mind you get long service medals, campaign medals, medals for where you are posted, coronation medals etc... So they are not all medals which are associated with bravery or any achievements. Some of them are part of their family heritage and are passed down. A guy at work here has the Military Cross (he was the gunner that went with Johnson Beharry who was awarded the VC in Iraq.)

A lot of the medals they have are ceremonial, some are deserved. The ones that are deserved are easily identifiable - the rest are just colours and "official" dress.

At dinners and "dos" the military wear their minature medals, for ceremonies they wear their full medals, and in official uniform just the ribbons.

:D that won't happen people would actually have to disagree with the daily mail and change there opinion.

There is a lot of tourist for the Queen. As England is one of the last serving royal family's in the western world. We also had a great empire and the traditions in england go way back. This intrigues and brings people to England. You just have to go to london and talk to visitors to see there absolutely fascinated with the queen and even more so, because it's still going strong.
