Hi all,

I bought me dad a Pioneer DVR-440HX-S 80GB HDD DVD Recorder - For xmas... But he's whinging, as he doesn't like the whirring noise of the fan on the back...

So I'm after a a HDD/DVD Recorder that does not have any fans etc... - Could anyone suggest one please?

Thanks :)

I've got the Toppy 5800 PVR which is fanless. However it is only a HDD recorder.

It can be connected to a PC to transfer for burning if you really need that part.

Very good bit of kit!

...Does it do Timer Recording? and can I record from another input - i.e. If I wanted to tune my Sky box into channel xx (on one of the tuners) - is this possible?

try here for all things toppy :)
my toppy 5800 runs too hot for my liking so i have put a pc bay cooler on top(hidden in a cabinet so you cant see it)
a lot of people have opened them up and installed an internal fan which i will do after the warranty runs out.
yes you can stop the hdd from running, but you don't get the past hour record function.on standby hdd is stopped
don`t know about recording from sky as i ain`t got it :D

Also got a 5800 for Xmas.
It's a 250gb version (samsung HDD).
They do run hot, and in my case, very hot.
It took the case off, and wow was that samsung roasting. It's probably not got enough clearance space above it to allow heat to dissapate, but even so it's damn hot.

I'm going to rig some kind of fan up to it, even if it is just to move heat away....see my other thread http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=8452427#post8452427
