I need a quick reminder that I can’t afford to run this please.

Quite a lot of people do and a reasonable number of people run business doing that. However it can be quite difficult to import a car if you don’t know what you are doing.

Its really old bangers that command the biggest premium, my old 1997 skoda would sell for around 2000 pounds at today’s exchange rate, that was before the accident, the insurance even paid out around 1500 for it.

could you be bothered to do that? Then pay to have it transported to the UK, then get a full vehicle check thing on it etc

For 6k euro?

Hell yes!!

If the car has been registered in europe, I dont think it needs any further checks.

why doesnt everyone just pop over to germany and save 6k euro then?

it was really popular/common in the 1990s, but it's not so common anymore, maybe because of car supermarkets..

i remember there being a huge brouhaha about cars being £000s cheaper on the continent than in the UK and it was all a scam.
but of course these were pre-tax prices, and OTR prices were much much higher.

however, as paras says, it probably still can work out cheaper to buy a car in belgium/germany as RHD, then import it back into the UK
i guess people just can't be bothered anymore.

plus, UK-spec cars, on the whole, tend to be better specced than ones on the continent, so i guess after getting to back to UK spec, the saving isn't as high..

btw, if you have the European Certificate of Conformity from the manufacture, then you don't need an SVA

also..
As manufacturers are aware of the taxes imposed by different countries, they often sell cars more cheaply to countries where cars are highly taxed in order to make them more affordable. So countries which tax cars highly make good countries from which to import.

It was actually 6k pounds profit I should make if it sells, a lot of people just can’t be bothered or are just too daunted by the thought of doing it.To me it just makes no sense to locally.

Having said that the E46 M3 and Nissan 350z market are both quite soft here and can normally be found for less then Germany:confused:

I also found that buying a LHD in the uk was a lot cheaper which is what I did with my TT.

Why don't you post your entire personal accounts? We'll then be able to tell you whether nor not you can afford it.

We need details of your monthly income, monthly outgoings as well as comprehensive details of your assets and savings.

Don't be silly. Paras isn't the sort of guy to lower himself to post his finances, or pics of all of his watches, or start threads about buying various supercars, or repeatedly tell us how rich he is despite being a student or anything...

Paras, judging by your previous posts you can obviously afford the Aston, I don't really understand why you're asking a load of internet forumites about it. (other than yet another reminder of your wealth)
Only you know your personal finances. A 911 or Aston isn't really a comparison I've had to make myself but I'm just guessing that the answer to how much they cost to run is simply "lots" so you can either afford it or you can't, there's no borderline thing where it's *just* within reach.

Indeed, and if you're wondering if you can afford to run a certain vehicle, then you're not really rich enough to buy it.

lovely looking Aston. So is there money to be made in buying a new or newish car in the uk and driving it to Prague to sell it? Like a 335i?

I think in honesty, if you have to ask on a computer forum where you are clearly posting for epeen points you cant afford it.

If you can turn up and post a V5 (or czech equiv) with your name on the car, a picture of it on the 4 mile drive up to the smaller of the 6 family mansions out in the hamptons, and 15-20 hottie nekkid cheerleaders off on spring break smothered all over it spread out to spell the name PARAS on the bonnet then you can afford it.

Meh, I guess I wouldn't all the time but on occasion; like if I considered being able to run an Aston, I probably would.
