I need a quote for a computer wallplug please

Probably not the correct name but it's for an office.
We have ran out of wallplugs that connect to a server which is on the floor below and we need to attach a scanner to it.
When I say server it's where all the computers and photocopiers etc are linked to then obviously it goes to the main server from there so it's probably a massive switch.
Of course staff will scan their stuff and send it to a shared drive to retrieve.
So how much should such a job cost to do?
 
It sounds like you mean an additional data point running back to the patch panel.

Cost depends massively on the specifics of the building and route. The cost will be almost entirely labour. If it's a purpose built office, then it should be simple and cable routes should be plentiful and accessible, but who knows!

A mini-switch is an alternative option...
 
NHS inter departmental charge ? I imagine it will be nearly £1million if its anything like local authority.

Whack a £10, 4 port switch on it as per post 2 above.
 
1x Cat5e point about £100+vat or £65+vat each if your putting more than 1 point in so it makes sense to put a double in or a few at a time. Thats using decent quality cable, wall plates, patch panels etc. Electricians usually quote cheaper but tend to use sockets that cave in and damage easily
 
How long is a piece of string? It's either a simple job or a nightmare requiring new switch gear that could costs thousands.

Of course Lay People think its simply a case of just 'sticking a new point in'

It's actually an old listed building that is being done up inside.

I've already suggested a £10 switch but I don't know if it's feasible or allowed.
I don't think I dare say how much now.

I have come up with a workaround because the Canon scanner (which cost £5000) is also USB and we could put the software on several PCs and have the scanner on a trolley.

How much could the quote be that you'll quibble over setting it up properly?
 
new network point? if there's enough capacity in the switch/cab then £40 or so tbh. depending on how much drilling etc will have to be done.
maybe £100 if it's a suspended ceiling jobbie and they have to spend ages routing cables.
 
Just buy a little switch for £30 and only use one port going to wall and then plug everything else in to that, leave it on the floor behind the scanner.

How much were you quoted?

for the job of running a new port, it is difficult to say because would depend on whether it was easy to run a cable to patch panel. The actual end point is easy to do, takes 15 seconds to crimp it.

Please don't make the network admin's life a nightmare... talk to them? they might be able to trunk a spare switch to one of the wallports and rearrange cables to solve the problem for you.

I know that we aren't supposed to run around telling people the extortionate fees we have to pay, thought it would be similar across the board.
