Hi guys

What the best engine degreaser you can buy that doesn't require special equipment? I don't mind if it's applied by brush, but an aerosol or water gun application would obviously be easier.

I need to track down various oil leaks and theres so much black filth around and under the engine it's impossible to make out much :)

gunk.

I needed to clean underneath of my car, because my gearbox exploded, sending oil everywhere and turned it into a horrible sludge on my car.

This stuff cut right through it. Excellent product.

Is that in a spray can or painted on with a brush? I see a well known auction site sells the cans in packs of 6 for less than Halfords sells a pack of 3! :)

I wanted to clean a gearbox and gunk alone didn't do much, I resorted to pressure washer (carefully) and a screwdriver... but this was properly baked on. Then Gunk at the end to finish off before painting...

Petrol.

Way cheaper than anything else, will get you high while working, and evaporates when your done leaving you with lovely clean parts. Just dont degrease your parts on your lawn, the grass doesnt like it :o

With Gunk I always seem to end up just pushing grease and crud around with a brush in the end, and its a pain to get it all off.

i was amazed first time i tried it, really does do a great job :p

i didnt have much joy with gunk. it gets off oil and grease pretty well, but on something like a gearbox that you want to get clean, no joy.

i cleaned that up with petrol and washing powder and a tooth brush
