I need breakdown cover.

2 Cars, 2005 Boxster, 2004 Megane. Don't need homestart, but do want recovery to destination, UK only.

AA\RAC\Greenflag are offering cover for about 100 for both cars.

AA Don't do recovery to destination. They do "relay" which means if they can't get you to a garage nearby which can fix it within 4 hours, then you have to go on a series of trucks to get to your destination.

From their website "national recovery to a UK mainland destination of your choice, if we're unable to fix your car at the roadside or arrange a prompt local repair."

Examples of this:
I was leaving a friends house in Bristol three weeks ago, pulling out of his drive my spring went on my front offside wheel. I called out the AA, who refused to take me home (North West) as they could take me to a National Auto-centre in Bristol who could fix it. Three hours and £200 (for a VW polo spring, so double what my local garage quoted) later, I am on my way driving home.

A bloke who works for my dad had a problem, his engine cut out while he was somewhere down south. What had happened was a piece of manifold had broken off, going through his tubo (tdi) taking that out, and into the engine taking that out as well. Because it was new engine time they took him home. Each AA van has a certain area which they cover, and they will only take you to the edge of their coverage area, where you have to wait for the next van. Eight hours and five vans later he got back home.

I got AA cover for £7.50 as my dad had a policy with them, they sent a letter saying get your own for this much. phoned them and he said its actually £5.50 so got it for that Bloomin bargain.

I had to use the aa the other week as my brake caliper siezed on. All good, didn't argue when I said I needed a flatbed to take me to a garage and we managed to get it on and off with no damage

Options are 59 quid for RAC (all the options I need) via Aviva.

I'll see what my bank can do. As it happens they called me in for a review last night, popping over at lunchtime. The Platinum current account has the level of cover I need, but is over priced. I'll see what they can do.

I get breakdown cover as part of my bank account. Maybe worth looking down this avenue?

I am with Lloyds and have premier select account, i pay £25 per month and besides lots of really useful stuff i get full cover for me as a driver :) Thus meaning that if i am in my mates car and it breaks down....we is covered!!
The other bonus is that by adding my wife on the account she is also covered!!

Definitley check with your bank :D
